AU Optronics announces its 65-inch ultra HD 4K IGZO TV panel technology. The IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) technology is set to achieve an ultra HD of 3840x2160 to create image depth for more stereoscopic pictures. Also, with higher light transmittance comes lower power consumption, making the panel even lighter and slimmer, according to the company.

AUO has made numerous accomplishments in the development of 4K by 2K Ultra HD TV panels. The 65-inch 4K by 2K Ultra HD TV panel technology announced today is made with IGZO TFT, which could increase electron mobility to realize an ultra fine 4K by 2K resolution, creating excellent image depth for more stereoscopic pictures. Also, with higher light transmittance comes lower power consumption, making the panel even lighter and slimmer.
In addition, AUO presents the 50-inch FHD Super Narrow Bezel FIM (Fully Integrated Module), which employs the Company's proprietary gate driver on array (GOA) technology to design the panel bezel to its narrowest. The FIM's bezel width is reduced to mere 3.5mm, more than 1mm narrower than current models in the market, making its compact and stylish design all the more fascinating to the eye.
AUO's 55-inch 4K by 2K Ultra HD TV panel is equipped with Wide Color Gamut (WCG) technology for color saturation as high as NTSC 96%. The panel features a quad-HD resolution of 3840x2160, capable of presenting the most vivid and lifelike images, recovering their true colors.

Well everything depends on pricing. 65" is about as small as I would go for a 4K display or probably any display I would consider "home theater". 4K seems to be ramping up faster than expected. I guess they must have some more info on Sony's 4K blu-ray players than the rest of us. Can't wait for CES this year. Lots of changes coming. 4K, ICC engine, motheye, igzo, etc.
Can anyone suggest to the mods that is may be time to start a 4K Flat Panel Display section on the Display Devices forum? There are now 6 LG 84" 4K display in the wild. Who knows, maybe one of those rich bastards uses these forums
what Im looking forward to UltraHD is the ability to have more passive 3d over active 3d, the big issues with passive is that resolution tends to be cut in half so you dont get as good of a picture as you do with Active WELL with UltraHD you cut that in half you still have the nice 1080 video sooo that means you can still have great 3d viewing at a far cheaper price at least in terms of having to buy passive glasses over the far more expensive active glasses
But Im still hoping for Toshiba glasses free 3d tech to take of and become the norm.
I guess you have not heard about IGZO. The end result is that the panel is thinner and does not require the brighter back lights of conventional LCD. Full array would probably provide minimal improvements in uniformity and certainly not enough to warrant their current higher cost. Even the 84" 4K panel used in the Sony, Toshiba and LG sets are edge-lit. I would take the additional cost of IPS, for increased viewing angles, over the cost of full array on a 4K IGZO panel. Another advantage is much less power consumption used by the edge lit.
