File under 'white elephant' or 'must have'?

LG has a new laser TV projector called the Hecto boasting a unique capability - it projects a 100" image from only 22" away from the screen. The LG Hecto projector uses lasers to create a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 100" diagonal image that is bright enough to see in a sunlit room. There appear to be issues with color fidelity and fringing, so LG has kept the unit behind a barrier at CES. The concept is intriguing - project almost anywhere without the risk of light being blocked when someone walks in front of the screen - but at what cost?

The Verge reports-
Quote:
'We got a chance to check out the image quality, and were left a little disappointed. Stretching a 1080p image over 100 inches already degrades the quality somewhat, and to make matters worse there's a large amount of green and red fringing, especially around white objects.'

EY Sweeney, an independent Australian research agency, is currently conducting a national study with people who have recently purchased an LG Hecto Laser TV/projector (less than 2 years ago). And it seems after much internet sleuthing that you are one of the very few people in Australia who did purchase the LG Hecto.

This is not an attempt to sell any products or service. Rather, we are aiming to obtain feedback from the owners and users of this product about their experiences using the LG Hecto product. The findings from our research will be used by LG to improve product design in the future. Research sessions will be held on the 11th and 12th of April and would require 2 hours of your time. You will be compensated for your participation in the research sessions.

If you believe you (or someone you know) will qualify for this market research and are interested in participating, please call our EY Sweeney office on our free toll number 1800 004 747 to speak to one our helpful staff. We will need to ask you a few questions about installation and main use of the projector just to make sure you are the right fit for this research.

EY Sweeney is an independent research agency, and is bound by the AMSRS market research code of conduct, which means all comments in the discussion will be completely confidential.

We look forward to hearing from you soon

Yeah pity they where not more open on what LG were up too but at the end of the day three hours talking to them in my lounge room I sort of worked it out what's going to happen in the future and all I hope is that they have listen to me to make sure that the mistakes of the Hecto are not repeated again on a newer model. Trust me I wrote pages about the Hecto's setting up problems and OTHER a year ago on the AV Forum in Australia.
