And yeah, my current Samsung TV has bad capacitors so I'm not thrilled with Samsung at the moment. mad.gif
Which Samdung model is that? I ended up selling such an LCD TV (before the problem become prevalent or was even known) by them (model year 2007, LNT4665F or the like). In hindsight (a Kuro replaced it), I couldn't be happier about the decision I made to ditch it.

I was at Magnolia today and was told the 65" ZT60 was scheduled to come in June 3rd.
Pretty excited to see one. Pretty serious about getting one!

That would be the 09' Samsung UN55B8500 full-array local dimmer. It has amazing PQ for an LED/LCD, but it's build quality is cheap crap plastic...just like their phones.

Like the Kuro, the 2013 ZT60 is both the best and the last of its kind—unless of course the Samsung F8500 happens to pull a surprise upset. I'm sure it'll make a fantastic "bridge" TV while waiting for OLED prices to drop. I can't wait to see one in person; I'm heading to NYC today, to check one out.

When and where will the first shoot-out be held? Are all of the serious contenders expected to be there (ZT60, etc)?

HT 3.1: Panny BDT 220 | 60" Panny VT60 | Marantz AV7005 | Focal CMS50 (L/R), CMS40 & CMS Sub

Stereo system: Cary Audio 306 SACD Pro | Cary Audio SLP-05 tube line level | Cary Audio SA-200.2 | Focal Diablo Utopia III

The Value Electronics shoot-out is May 10-11, that's the one I'm attending.

I really hope so, but everyone is saying late May, early June release for the ZT60 and the shootout is May 10 sooo...

Robert will only put a ZT60 in the shootout if he gets production models (that he can sell) delivered in time to properly break in and calibrate.

Panasonic will be taking the crown again this year, assuming they get Robert a ZT60 in time for the Shootout. The F8500 is more on par with the VT60.

The ZT60 is going to be a bridge TV for me as well, until OLED has larger screen sizes, is in 4K resolution (only for creating sharper text and zooming in on photos, my TV is my PC monitor as well) and is affordable.

Lucky you that you get to see this beast in person today! eek.gif Let us know what you think please! biggrin.gif

I just hope this year they cover the bezels of the TVs so no one knows which is LCD or Plasma and doesn't give the reviewers the option to be biased towards one manufacturer or another from the beginning.

I sure can't wait for this monitor. I'm worse than a 5 year old waiting for Santa on the 24th. Yes I will have it calibrated, hopefully by David Susilo, who is testing the set now.

I bet, I'm still waiting on the call to pre-order so I'm doubly antsy, LOL! And that's good, David will surely do an excellent calibration job for you. I know he's already had some hands on time with the pre-production panels. smile.gif

Disappointed to hear that. I guess thats the benefit of having to wait until May. I will have time to find a good calibrator biggrin.gif

Panasonic ceased plasma developement
PANASONIC CONFIRMS EXIT FROM PLASMA TVS
By Rasmus Larsen
11 Apr 2013

Panasonic’s Vice President of the TV division confirms to The Verge that Panasonic has ceased plasma development. Sales will continue into 2014 at the very least but OLED is the future for Panasonic.

PANASONIC CONFIRMS EXIT FROM PLASMA TVS

The first rumors about Panasonic's exit from plasma TVs surfaced in December 2012 and in March 2013 it was reported that plasma developement has stopped.

Panasonic Display Vice President Kiyoshi Okamoto now confirms the rumors. He says that plasma development has stopped and that the 2013 plasma TVs that are appearing in stores use Panasonic’s “last plasma panel”.

Panasonic ZT60
Panasonic has ceased plasma development but sales will continue into 2014 at the very least

He stresses that Panasonic will continue production and sales. The current 2013 line-up will be sold into 2014 at the very least, he says.

With Panasonic’s decision to exit from plasma TVs, an era ends. Panasonic’s plasma TVs have been recognized and applauded as the best TVs available by many experts in recent years. The 2013 models and the ZT60 flagship will be the last and best ever from the Japanese TV manufacturer.

OLED IS PANASONIC'S FUTURE

Panasonic will instead focus on OLED technology for TVs. Kiyoshi Okamoto says that Panasonic has already moved several plasma engineers to the OLED division.

“OLED is one of the key future products” he says.

Panasonics 4K OLED-TV
Panasonic unveiled this 4K OLED-TV at CES

However, he offers no further details regarding OLED-TVs from Panasonic. Panasonic unveiled its first OLED-TV with the56" 4K OLED TV at CES 2013 back in January but no plans to sell the TV has been announced.
