the TSx550T. though it seems to me that the TSx550 would actually be more comparable to the RTiA5.

ohher models directly comparable to the 70 would be
TSi500
Monitor 75T

I don't need snobs to tell me how to think, thank you!

Any idea on how the 550T compares to the Klipsch RF-82 II for music?

My local Frys, has both and a few others side by side to demo, granted the room was like an echo chamber but I have to say a side from the horn making things a bit tighter and crisper, they both performed very well to the point where I couldnt justify the $200 difference (each) in price so I went with the Polks smile.gif

Thank you.

There is a Fry’s within 30-45 minutes from me. I’ll have to go check them out. I’ve had Klipsch RB-51 II bookshelves as fronts for the last couple of years, but I’ve recently gotten more into music than movies. I’d like to upgrade to towers, and the Polks look nice. I just don’t want to buy a whole new set of speakers if the Klipsch RF-82 fares well against the Polks, then that would be a cheaper option for me.

Did anyone notice the size of the actual speaker on the Polk TSX?

I have a pair of Polk TSX 110B bookshelfs and a Polk TSX 150C center, and I noticed that the diameter of the mid/woofer speakers is not 5-1/4" as stated by Polk, but in fact closer 4.5".  I find this odd, because the tweeter diameter correctly measures at 1" as advertised.  Perhaps I'm measuring it wrong, and I should be taking into account the size of the metal speaker basket frame?

Regardless, I'm happy with the sound I get out of the TSX speakers, I was just curious as to why the speaker measurements were off.  Is there a standard way to measure speakers or a set standard that manufacturer's use when building them?

I realize this is an old thread, but I would love to hear what everyone thinks now of their TSx series tower speakers. I went to Fry's yesterday and purchased the 440t model after listening to all three. In your opinions would agree that it is not necessary to get the 550t model which really only has the addition of the woofers if I am using a fairly powerful dedicated sub and my application is 90% movies and 10% music? Also, in a home theater application do you set your towers to small in the receiver setup?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure, I have the 550t and well I have them set to full range and that little extra bit from the woofer is nice when Im listening to music and when I had the sub turned off, man did they hit, I was surprised. I guess they are not as necessary especially for a movie environment. I think either way depending on how you have them cross-over it wouldnt make much of a difference in the end sound quality wise.

Thanks Daniel. I appreciate the quick response. Any thoughts on whether or not a Yamaha RX-A730 is enough power for these. They sound good to me but I wonder if they could sound even better and being somewhat a newbie to all this it is tough to know. Seems like your receiver is of better quality than mine.

Our power ratings between your avr and mine are very similar, but room size and treatment is a factor in how they sound, typically my volume on my AVR sits between 35-45 out of 100, going any louder for that room size starts to hurt lol... my room is 12Wx11Dx8H feet.

Makes sense. My setup is quite different. 14Wx18Dx16H withone side having only 1/4 of a wall. Thanks for the help. I have to say that I really like the TSx440t's I have and for the price, $355 for the pair after using an old credit I forgot I had, I can't complain. Now it's time to break them in and enjoy.

New TSX 5.1 System Owner

Hi Folks, I will have my new system tomorrow. I have TSX220's up front and TSX110's in the rear, a TSX150 center channel and a PSW110 subwoofer. I have read some favorable reviews about all of the speakers I have ordered, but I would love to hear from any on this forum who have listened to them firsthand.

You will get more feedback if you post this in the Official Polk Audio thread: Calling all Polkies:Official Polk thread

I've had my 550's (in cherry) for about a month. Not had much chance to break them in but gradually they are sounding better. I have them paired with a PSW125 sub also in cherry and for music they do sound great. I have them set as small and the sub volume set about 2/3 level. Once I had the EQ set in the AVR, things started to glisten, really liking them compared with some awful Energy I had before ( those definitely didn't compare with the Missions I had back in the UK ).

For HT, I still have mission centre and rears but will be looking at Polk centre in due course, prob CSiA4 or A6.

FrontL&R - Polk TSx550t in Cherry
Centre - Polk CSiA6 in Cherry
Surrounds - Mission 77DS
Subwoofer - Polk PSW125 in Cherry
Receiver - Pioneer VSX-9140THX

I've been looking for 550 for a while now, price on Amazon is down to $300 each. I can't post a link, but it looks like prices dropped on the 330 and 440 also.
