I'd be leary to be a first gen 4K set from a better known manufacturers like Samsung, Sony, LG, and Sharp let alone Seiki. Can't help but think this will be a stinker. Hopefully I'm wrong cause it's great seeing a budget 4K set this early.

Budget? This model is far from budget it is a 10th of the price of others... Put it in perspective if this tech is something you want and you have the money for it I do not see why you wouldn’t get this one just for kicks.

If you wanted something that cost $20.00 and some where you found a similar one for $2.00 would you get it and hope for the best, if it doesn’t work out at least it wasn’t $20.00

I don’t think we can call this much of a price difference budget, you cannot call it anything less than a STEAL, lol.

I purchased a plasma set which I still use and love back in 2004/2005 it was very pricey but before that I purchased a cheap LCD rear projector to see if HDTV was worth it. You know what I learned from my cheap LCD rear projection TV, yes HDTV is worth it. I will use this set to find out if 4K is really worth it in the smaller size frame 50-70” I know above that size 4K will absolutely be worth it. But 42-70" I do not think it will be worth it until we have a but ton of 4K content and it is as much of a standard as HDTV is now.

Are you really going to argue this? This is the definition of a "budget set." $2,000 is expensive for a 50" 1080p TV, not for a 4K TV. It is a budget set relative to other options on the market. Just knowing that it's 4K makes it far from a steal. Until it's out in the wild and evaluated, it's not going to be considered a steal, until it can be verified that it's actually a decent TV. It could have poor uniformity, contrast, black levels, etc. -- 4K isn't enough to determine if it's even a good TV, and this manufacturer is suspect. Competition is always good for the market, since it helps keep prices down. But until we know the price of the 55" Sony X900A, this may not even be that great a buy.

If the current 50" Seiki in Canada is of any indication of picture quality, you'd be flushing y our money down the toilet.

Their current 1980p sets only have a motion resolution less than 480p, black level is non existent, very narrow viewing angle, and impossible to be calibrated to even DeltaE<10.

Good to know David and thanks for sharing. Please share your thoughts if you get your hands on their new display.

On another note, even though the display may not be top quality compared to major brands, I still think it's a statement that shows the rest of the major names that the cost doesn't have to cost $10,000+ for a UHD display like most are advertising. It's hard to justify the large price gap. I'm sure someone could manufacture a half decent display that will get some early adopters interested.

If I can get my hands on the 4K Seiki in Canada, I will definitely review it. I always come in with an open mind and with the hope for every product will be at least good for its price range. So far, however, Seiki in Canada haven't shown that.

Yeah, I am sure the picture quality will not even be close, but eventually an 8 megapixel 50" display with decent brightness and contrast could be useful.

I'm a concert freak, how many Bluray Disks are 1080p and TrueHD - almost zero. My cheap 720p set works just fine.......

Huh? I have more than 30 concert titles and they are at the very least recorded in PCM. As far as 1080i vs 1080p, it's all about how they were recorded. There are 1080p that are worse looking than 1080i. And in most cases, the player's de-interlacer can do a good job so one can't tell the difference.

Still, MOST new releases (Bluray concerts) are NOT 1080p.

Most people get their tv via cable or sat so this thing is useless without upconverting tech.

Most people get upscaling from their Receivers anyway...so no big deal there. The 30hz is the killer though... As most people noted this would be great for computers sans content but with 30hz they killed it.

So where is the niche for this display...

Most movies are 24p so the 30 Hz should not be a problem for most HT applications.

I just heard that the MSRP is now $1499.

http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/seiki-sets-pricing-benchmark-for-ultra-hdtv-with-its-50-inch-led-4k2k-model-1778809.htm

No wonder the price at that in Zoey67 price is so low.

I might have to change my username to GotUHDTV?

I saw the news as well. In fact, Seiki is offering a one year no-nonsense warranty.

I ordered this set for $1200. That's a steal for 4k. Will be used for my PC. Hopefully it doesn't suck. I just won't compare it to my actual TVs in the house.

Hey JukeBox360, please keep us posted on the quality and performance of the screen if you can.

Your right for the price that it's a steal.

Keep an eye on the news for the CEO or someone high up at Seiki to get murdered or turn up 'missing'.... The LCD manufacturers price-fixed for years and were likely planning on doing the same thing with 4K panels. They're doing it with NAND chips right now. They did it with RAM before. This is how they do business. And when they get caught, they get some tiny little slap-on-the-wrist fine. They make Billions doing it, and then they get fined a couple million, argue it down to a few hundred thousand, and it becomes the braindead move to make. Of course, it only works if everybody is playing the same game... and if you think the idea of having someone killed over a few million dollars is insane, perhaps you should learn some history. Wars have been fought over far less.

It goes for $1361 on Amazon now.
I wonder why it says upscale HD to 4K when others say it does NOT upscale.

According to Gizmodo, the TV is surprisingly good for the price...now that is a surprise!

Only my Q10.

It does upscale to 3840x2160 - it just doesn't do it with any processing or sharpening. Every 1080p pixel will be displayed as 4 pixels on the Seiki. Which will look lousy if you are close enough to actually see UHD details. If you are 8'+ away from the Seiki displaying 1080p as 4k2k it will still look like 1080p.

So apparently this display can do 1080p at 120hz using a pc. So I'm wondering is there any way to get 3d working on this display other than using a pc.

The main reason I want to get 4K is for my home theater/gaming PC. Now, I really want to see one of these, since the other main use I foresee is as a monitor for a PS4. Either way, 120Hz 1080p is still important. After the surprisingly positive experience I had with my Vizio TV, I'll give any brand a shot. All I need is a return policy, and I'm a willing test subject.
