Yes
Well, we know Auro does, I think, in that RS20i or whatever its called.
Yes and it cost $20,000!
But I have a ton of 5/7.1 channel based content at home I would like to see improved with these kinds of processing.
Me to about 700 Blu Ray and counting :)

Can't blame the technology, just the timid mix (for a movie with aerial dogfights no less). Not a good first impression.

Right and I never have. So far both MoS and 300 were better sounding.

Looks like the next time I'll be down for an Atmos viewing will be when Captain America has come out. Go with me, Sanjay! smile.gif

I really won't be fully convinced of any of this technology (being available to me) until I see something real and tangible. A $20,000 DataSat pre/pro is not my idea of 'real' or 'tangible'.

My personal opinion only...
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would make a good choice for the first Auro 9.1|10.1|11.1 movie BD.

According to The Big Screen Cinema Guide as of January, there are

27 North American theaters with Auro 11.1 sound systems installed and

95 U.S. locations with Dolby Atmos

I would say ATMOS is winning biggrin.gif

Only 3 / 4* in the LA area

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Must..stop...buying...every bluray release...

Have to concede this market to the very well off. The mentioned Auro 3D Auriga AVR powering 13X 200 watts runs a cool 14,950 euros that is a bit over US$20.3K.

I wonder what it did to a mono signal via the processing to make the sound more spacious? No doubt the demo, according to the attendees, was very impressive, but I can only wonder how many of them were already running 2 height speakers in their own home theaters and using PLIIZ? Adding 2 more heights apparently does make a difference. As to theater installations of Auro 3D in Los Angeles, I am still waiting.

There are three cinemas in the LA area equipped with Barco's Auro 11.1 - The Grove, The Americana and the Edwards Calabasas.

Are any of them actually running an Auro 3D, err.. 11.1, encoded sound track? Inquisitive ears want to experience it.

Pretty routinely, though obviously you need for them to have booked a movie that was mixed in Auro-3D. The next big title releasing with an Auro 11.1 soundtrack is Transformers: Age of Extinction.

That's the problem. This very thread was started because Scott Wilkinson went to The Americana to experience 'Elysium' in Auro. It was an Auro-equipped theatre. The movie was mixed in Auro. But the digital file they were showing didn't have the Auro-encoded soundtrack.

The only reason he went to The Americana is because the same Auro-mixed movie was showing in an Auro-equipped theatre in The Grove, but their digital file didn't have the Auro-encoded soundtrack either.

Is there any way to confirm that any of the local Auro-equipped theatres are for sure showing the Auro-encoded soundtrack of Transformers?

Maybe if the feature was prefaced with an Auro trailer?

There is no indication that Transformers 4 is running in Auro 3D at The Grove, The Americana, or out in Calabasas. What do you suggest now? I will see it tomorrow in Dolby Atmos in AMC Burbank 16 Prime theater in 3D. I wouldn't mind comparing the two mixes and hear it for myself and I don't want to hear any excuses why it didn't sound good because those theaters should have been Auro 3D certified.

But what if it isn't? Dolby Atmos equipped theaters charge a premium, above the normal cost of the non Dolby Atmos theaters in the same complex. So one knows what one is getting. Now it can be a totally different story as to just how good that Dolby Atmos mix is.

In Vegas, there was a casino with probably 6 cinemas and one of them proudly proclaimed Dolby Atmos on the rug before entering the theater.

Oh I hear ya, man. It seems like it is fairly clear when Atmos is available.

Remembering it now, I'm not sure I would have know I was seeing Auro when I saw Red Tails. Aside from the new speakers not in usual positions.

Advertising at the cinema level certainly leaves a lot to be desired (I have found this to be true of Atmos as well). I miss the days of newspaper ads that indicated which showtimes were in DTS, Dolby Digital, SDDS or 70mm.

Anyway, I guess the only way to be 100% is to contact the cinema. The Barco website does have a theater locator that indicates which screen has Auro installed - and it looks like they've added one at the AMC Burbank. http://www.barco.com/en/StaticPages/...a/AuroLocator?

That is nothing short of amazing. There does not seem to be anything to indicate that whatever theater number it is is running anything in Auro 3D. As to Burbank, the Prime theater has the equivalent of a neon sign, as in theaters of old, indicating Dolby Atmos, if applicable. Which theaters are Auro 3D setups in Burbank or Glendale? Just so that there is no confusion in terms of what I am writing, theater #8 in AMC Burbank 16 has an audio setup for three formats: Auro 3D, Dolby Atmos, and the DTS version, but that is not available for screenings to the public in any of those formats. So which theater is it? Same question for Glendale's Americana. Is there anything running in the LA area that is Auro 3D encoded and available today. Given the number of Dolby Atmos theaters in this area, Auro 3D is so far behind, it isn't funny. It would also seem that the likelihood of Auro 3D making into any affordable AVR at the levels of Dolby Atmos Denon's, Onkyo's, or Pioneer's is next to zero. This will be an extremely small niche, regardless if Auro 3D is equivalent or better than Dolby Atmos. It is very hard to evaluate Auro 3D, if it is not physically available in the area. As to Transformers 4, it would appear to be highly unlikely that it was encoded in Auro 3D because the ending credits only list Dolby Atmos.

Ah, I didn't realize the Burbank room was the one that AMC setup for shootouts between Atmos, Auro and MDA. As to the others, Edwards Calabasas is Screen 3 and the Americana is Screen 15. The Grove is Screen 2. Transformers 4 definitely has an Auro-3D mix, so one would hope that those cinemas booked Transformers into their Auro-equipped auditoriums.

It looks like no one in the US except for DATASAT is doimg AURO 3D!

ATMOS on the other hand is flooding the AV receiver's market, Denon, Onkyo, Marantz, Pioneer, Yamaha... same with movies over 100 released in ATMOS and soon on BLU RAY !
