"LeEco, often described as the Netflix of China"

http://www.forbes.com/sites/briansol.../#4993ff369987

I've never heard of leeco, but it seems they want to put their apps on TVs and so far none of the TV makers include them (as far as I know) so now they have Vizio.

I personally don't see how anyone can compete with Netflix and Amazon unless their service is free, but I'm not an expert.

Its pretty easy to compete with Netflix in China when Netflix is not in China... at least not yet, if ever...

Good News ! Vizio will begin to rollout HDR10 today.

Now the only two displays that support both formats are Vizio and LG.

which turn the second brand to have both formats.
This is great news, I will need to keep checking on my P series TV to see if it gets the update. Can't wait to see some results of this partnership.

Here in Hong Kong LeEco (previously LeTV) already have their own branded TV's but I suspect they are just rebranded Chinese no name TV's.

LeEco stuff is all over the place and their IP TV boxes have premium Sports pack subscriptions that include English Premier league. Most of the other nonsport programming is very much Chinese viewer focused.

Possible combine non R&D first, like HR, Purchasing, global logistics as 2-3 year goal?
Then look at R&D as 4-6 year plan.

Hmm, sounds like the scare of Japanese buying up US business in the late 80's / early 90's before their stock bubble busted.

I cannot remember a case where organization A bought organization B and improved product quality, customer service, and value for money.

If you know of such cases I would appreciate hearing about them.

And how long ago was that experience with Vizio? There are many cases of manufactures of low(er) quality goods making a play with higher quality. Vizio seems to be making a big push with the 2016 models to make a high quality not just a high value product. Will they succeed? Will they regress after LeEco ? Maybe yes, maybe no, but don't count them out based a bad experience from before their current efforts to improve.

I personally have always owned Sony TVs and had a 930D on order when the 2016 Vizio Ps were announced. I cancelled my order and re-orded a P65-C1. I've been very happy with my choice so far.

Might a case be made for Ford buying Jag, Land Rover, and Aston Martin? Yes, some Ford parts bin parts were used and in the end these brands didn't fit with Ford and got sold off, but I'd say a case can be made that the overall quality improved while the cost to manufacture dropped.

And I am brain dead or I would have thought of that. I drive a 2008 Jag XJR and and highly praise it. Definitely an improvement in reliability over Jags of old.

I'm sure it was very difficult for LeechCo to make a lot of money streaming content in a country that has no respect for copyright laws.

I think Vizio has been in trouble for the past year anyway. They've been jettisoning features (like antenna inputs and smart apps) to save money. Ironically, if you want the new parent company's streaming app on your Vizio you need an external device to do it.

Such a shame the largest U.S. television MONITOR manufacturer will now be sending all its money to China.

Derreckla do you know that Sony and Vizio use Taiwanese AUO panel brand on their display?

Sony doesn't make panels.

It's not easy for a new brand to catch on. Remember when Vizio first came out. There weren't know to be good, there were more generic. You could only get them in the beginning at Costo and Sams, etc. After many years they got a good reputation and best buy started carrying them 2 years ago or so, which was a big deal.

80" Vizio LED - (60" Vizio plasma - retired)
Harmony 890 Remote
X10 Commander Iphone App = full control of lights, fireplace, pool, shades, from Iphone

I have had very good luck with Vizio TVs...in fact most of the flat panel TVs I have had over last 10 years have been Vizio. Several family members also. Doubt this buyout will change much if anything except a name on a ledger somewhere.

Will be interesting to see what Vizio does now. They had been heading down the IPO route for nearly a year before the LeEco takeover but had issues with supporting financials for the IPO. Should be interesting.

Think they will get a bump in quality through this? I have always been interested in Vizio but their quality standard seems to be a little lower than other TV manufacturers for me to really want to switch to them.
I owned a Vizio back in the day and it really was not that great. had some issues with it and ended up just parting with it for a Samsung.

Edit: oops just read the last few posts. Guess my question is invalid now lol.

I read the original press release. Best Buy didn't want them because they didn't feel it was a premium product years ago and now it is. It was best buy.

My first thought is: in a year or two, we will find out if the key Vizio R&D people already bailed (as they often do when a merger is announced). If they did, expect lots of delays in the near future.
