Thanks knight! Now you and basement could be dangerous.

I would love to do a basement reno into a dedicated theater. I've seen many threads on here of peoples theater builds so I have several idea's how I want mine to look when I do. It will be a good many years before I can afford a house though, especially if I keep buying new gear. And the fact I have to maintain all my PC's too, money can dissapear pretty quick.

Wow, quite impressive. Having all those drivers staring you down must be intimidating at first.

@bencorn Thanks. I prefer the look without the grills. So pretty and shiny.

@Tigre Haha, that depends...Are you a hot female? But seriously, thanks for looking, glad you like it.

@The Upsetter Well I do plan to add another pair when I upgrade my receiver to one with 11ch capability.

Hey Everyone,

I have been inactive for a while but just thought I'd post a quick update. I did some work on my place recently, new baseboard and door/window casing in my two bedrooms. Since doing this I have also switched the rooms around moving my LAN room into the master suite for added space and comfort while gaming. The old room was only 9x11 and the new one is 11x14. I also had an electrician install some 20amp plugs since I had issues blowing the fuse with all the computers running, especially in the summer with my AC unit. I am also in the process of upgrading one of my PC's to a Core i5 2500k system with Z68 mobo, possibly my main.

New pics have been added to the main page area, please feel free to comment on the change.

Here is a quick sample

Hello Everyone,

I'm back with some serious updates. I did a bit of renovating in my living room and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

Here's what I did...

-Moved theater setup centered around fireplace
-Added/mounted height speakers
-Painted entire room
-In-wall wiring/wall plates
-new baseboards/moldings
-aggressive cable management

I thought I would share my step by step progress of the in-wall wiring with you in case anyone else is contemplating doing this. It's fairly easy to do yourself.

Now for pictures...

This is how it looked before I did the in-wall wiring. As you can see it's a little messy.
2_zpsa46c29b4.jpg

I cut my wall holes, attached the low voltage mounting bracket and labeled the wires before feeding them through. I numbered them on both sides of the wire.

5_zpsfe64613d.jpg
6_zps89dd3fc1.jpg
7_zps5afaf5c6.jpg
8_zps35fd3735.jpg

Then I put in zap ties to pin the wire to the wall and keep it away from touching the top of the fireplace. I pulled it tight to keep the excess wire from dangling before tightening the zap ties.

Now the finished product. Plates on looks great. Very clean and professional.

Here's a few more mod's I did on my HTPC

First, here are the new parts I put in a while back, showing the Seasonic PSU and Zalman heatsink
inside_zpsbbfbe798.jpg

Next, I had a faulty hotswap SATA connection and the warranty was gone, so I converted it to hold IDE HDD instead. I had to cut the plastic back a fair bit but it works just the same.
hotswapmod_zps1299ae79.jpg

Here it is with HDD installed
hotswapmod2_zps4383db7f.jpg

I also converted the front panel to house USB 3.0 using USB 3.0 extension cables. This was a lot of work actually and its a pain to take the front plate off to show you what I did. Maybe I'll snap a picture next time I make an adjustment.

Here's where the cables connect to the back putting the rear USB 3.0's into the front panel

Thanks. I'm quite happy with how everything turned out.

I got the signs on Ebay. About $13 per sign. They look even more professional in person than through my camera.

Great setup! I really like the wire management as well.
Do you have any pictures of how you have the surrounds set up?

Do you like having the height more than the rears? I am looking to buy a new receiver and I am thinking about maybe doing heights instead of rears. It would certainly be easier to wire!
Thanks

Thanks! Wire management is a great pain!

I don't understand, what do you mean how I have the surrounds set up? The 3rd pic on post #40 shows my right surround with the wire neatly pinned to the wall. The pic below that, I just missed the left surround with my camera angle, sorry. Trying to show the rooms awkward shape as well. I'll get more pics up later.

Heights are better than rears I find. They tend to get more action.

I can't please everyone! rolleyes.gif Haha. The chairs are on the riser because the TV is too high for the seating distance, would be like front row at a theater otherwise. I am planning to rip apart my mantle and rebuild it giving me a chance to lower the TV. I would have done this along with everything else but my friend who designs that stuff was busy during that time and I just wanted to get my theater working again. Also because I re arranged the room and had no where for the riser to go, I figured I'd use it rather than throw it out, sort of convenient. I may also build risers for the speakers though.

Oh yeah, hiding the wires do look a lot better, great job!.

Can you tilt the towers a little so they would be pointing at your ears? :)  these should work http://www.amazon.com/Lovan-Speaker-Stands-Matte-Black/dp/B000OONBZ8
