Hi all

I just moved out from my apartment to a big house and have dedicated a 6x4.5m room for my new home theatre. The room will be acoustically treated by professionals and except for the speakers there will be no equipment in the room itself. I have two small rooms for projector and other electronics.

The screen is an acoustically transparent Screen Excellence Enlightor 4K 2.37:1, 3.8m wide and 1.6m tall. Behind the screen is my Linn speaker system. Fully active, 5 way speakers with 100W amplification to each driver. I use two SVS PB13 Ultra DSP for LFE.

Playback and light control is handled by my homebuilt cinema servers.

Left to be done:
  • Install Ecophon Sombra DS (black ceiling with acoustic panels and spotlights)
  • Black low-light-reflecting curtains for the side walls that can be easily retracted
  • Install additional surround channels for 7.1 (total 6 surround speakers)
  • Additional seating (right now only 5 seats)

Some images, keep in mind that it is not finished yet:

Overview of the front of the theatre. The screen is amazing. Does not affect the sound in any way.

Room for servers, processor, amplifiers and other electronics

Projector is also hidden in a room behind the theatre.

Imac used to control the cinema. I add trailers, light/sound-triggers and the main feature. Everything takes care of itself :-)

More images will be posted later as the construction proceeds.

/ Jacob

Like the equipment room and that all your gear is hidden and also easily accessible too.

How high is your screen off the floor and how do you like the viewing angle? From pictures is looks low, but viewing on my phone too.

Two more shots of the room. Both are shot in the day - the curtains are doing a good job keeping the room dark.

Thanks smile.gif

It is really a great room to watch movies in. Very satisfied with the end result. The size of the screen gives IMAX feeling, but with the better aspect ratio of 2.37:1 of course :-)

ADA Suite 7.1HD and the 1x MR1 source - the heart of the cinema. Making sure that movies play without sync issues or stutter. And very involving.

Recently updated the system to 7.1 with four JBL 8140A speakers. Very satisfied with the surround sound now!

The subs are also replaced. Now I use two PC13 Ultra DSP and two SVS Legato subs with external amp.

I still can't get over how close it seems you are sitting to that monster size screen. Movies must be really immersive. How far are you sitting from that screen? Wait a second. JUST WAIT A DAMN SECOND. Am I reading your system link correctly where you say your screen is 164 in eek.gifeek.gifeek.gif. Now I have to know again how far you sit from that screen. I forget how far away it was, but the biggest screen I can remember seeing was a friends theater who has a 120in screen, That seemed massive to me. Yours must be just out of this world. Almost like an IMAX.

Hi!

Distance from the screen is approx 4m. So yes, it is very immersive. Really looking forward to 4K. You can clearly see the limits of 1080p from that distance if you are looking for it, but it is not distracting from enjoying the movie.

I basically just bought the biggest screen I could fit on the wall because I don't want to have the feeling that I could have had a bigger one. You quickly adapt to a bigger size and want more... I sometimes see amazing home theatres with great sound but the screen could be much bigger. That is a pity, imho.

So you are about 13ft away from a 164" 2.37 screen. DAMN. That's what I call immersive. I am sure the picture looks great and that your sound is great also. If I can toot my own audio horn, I think that I represent that last sentence you wrote, only I am going to see if I can upgrade my video a little. I think at my distance, something like a 70" 2.35 screen would really be impressive. Your room looks really wide so your screen looks great. My room is only 9.5 feet wide and 12.5 feet deep and I would be about 8 feet to the screen. We shall see. But again, you have a fantastic setup.
