Yes evening all
My mums little Dell Dimension 3100C all being concidered has been a bullet proof excellent wee machine over the years, with the only real design flaw causing the only times needeed for parts replacement, being the hard drive, about 4 times. The Hrad Drive is situated below the CDROM with little case (non ATX dell standard) designed for vertical placement should ALWAYS be placed so theres something stopping it falling on the LEFT hand side as if and when it happens, and when it HAS infact fell over, not even at any significant velocity, but with the CD drive & HD side by side at top of the verticaly standing case, when it falls over to the lkeft , the for all intensive purposes defenseless recedives full force of the machine against it with the other side being the thin alloy wall of the case
4 (or possibly 5) times this has happened, EVERY time killing hard drive beyond repair so whewn this happened ehile it was pulled out from its posistion within the lower section of computer table for cable re-arranging, damn cat came out of no-where having to quickly manouuver and knoclomg over the case, yep, so it fell onto the left. RIP 500gb sEAGATE ,m hello temp solution, 55gb 2.5" lappy drive
reinstalled the 32 bit windows 7, keeping in mind of this machines RAM, 1GB DDR2, on boaerd intel gfx, 8mb max share mem size, with this config it runs surprisingly ok
So went and got a 160gb 3.5" pr4oper drive, and have installed 64bit windows 7 by mistake
Now i realise the obvious setrtings, making appearence 100% for performance etc etc etc but am in a hurry and was hoping of any reg edits, many of win7's performance functions, which ones to disdable and i know theres lists of services to disable but im talking reaL TIME DIFFERANCE IN PERFORMANCE and was thinking would changing indexing so it only indexed mums photos folder or would disabling al together be worth it like on xo?
thanks , will include photos videos etc
