You really need to audition speakers to find the sound you like, but I will suggest my favorites. $5k for speakers is a great budget, but you are buying 6 speakers including a sub - quite a few speakers. One of my favorite brands is Paradigm - I would highly suggest the Studio series (Studio 60 / CC-590 / Studio ADP-590 / Monitor Sub 12) but those are out of your budget. The Monitor series are great speakers and within your budget - even if you added 2 back speakers for 7.1

Paradigm Monitor 11 ($1600 / pr)

Paradigm Center 3 ($600)

Paradigm Surround 3 ($800/pr)

Paradigm Monitor Sub 12 ($1000)

My other suggestion is Polk speakers. I haven't heard the LSi series, but they are just in your budget and are probably very good - you may want to audition. The ones I have heard are the RTi series - amazing sound at a really great price - all 5 RTi speakers plus a sub would be half your budget. If you go with the RTi's, consider upgrading the center to the LSi - it is the single most important speaker in your HT.

For electronics you could just get a good AVR from Onkyo or Denon and a cheap BluRay player. But those high power amps will be embedded inside an AVR with video switching and surround decoding that will be out of date next time there is a new technology. Why not go with separates? Look at Marantz, Integra, or an Internet direct like Outlaw. Outlaw amps are made by ATI and are high quality for the price. A surround processor / preamp and a big 200wpc 7 channel amp - with enough left over for a world class BluRay player like the Oppo BDP-103.

2-Ch (HT L/R): Oppo BDP-105 BD, Adcom GFP-750 pre, Bryston 10B Sub Xover, Bryston 4BSST2 / Paradigm Signature S4 v.2 (L/R), (2) SVS SB12-NSD (Subs)
Home Theater: Bryston 4BSST2 amp / Paradigm CC-590 (C), Outlaw 7700 amp / (4) Def Tech UIW-RSSII (LS/RS/LB/RB), Samsung 46” 3D LCD
