My Funk Audio 7.1.4 Living Room

Here's our downstairs great room/family room. The squaw's only limitation was that whatever I buy had to look nice - ie no bed liner finishes or fridge sized subs. I've been through many speakers, subs, receivers over the years before settling on my current setup.

Speakers:
Def Tech Promonitor 1000
SVS SCS
Boston Acoustics VS series
Salk Songtowers
Salk HT2-TL
Seaton Catalyst 8

Subs:
Bic F12
SVS PC12-NSD
HSU VTF 15
SVS SB13
Seaton Submersive
Rythmik FV15
DSS 18
Funk 18.0 Master-Slave

Pre-Pro's:
Krell Foundation
Emotiva XMC
Anthem 510/710/720
Anthem d2v3d
Anthem AVM 60
Yamaha CX5000
Marantz 8802a
Arcam 550
Denon 4311
Denon 4520
Onkyo 608/818
Pioneer SC 35/55

Amps
Outlaw 5000
Outlaw 7125
Wyred4Sound MMC
Wyred4Sound 7150
ATI 527
Sunfire 7201
Emotiva XPA 3
Emotiva BasX a500

Since Jan 2017 I've had a Funk L/C/R based system in a 7.1 config. This summer I decided to convert my setup into a 7.1.4 atmos, since my ceiling speakers were almost perfectly positioned. I bought a set of Salk Songtower RT's for surround duty and have ordered a custom version of Nathan's 3.4 surround for the back surrounds (order in process). An Anthem MRX 1120 powers everything.

so....my current (final?) setup:

Audio
L/C/R: Funk Audio 6.1p towers and 6.2 center
Surrounds: Salk Songtower RT (a bit overkill...probably going to sell and downsize)
Surround back: Funk Audio 3.4surround (in process)
Ceilings: Boston Acoustics
Sub: Funk Audio 18.1
AVR: Anthem 1120

Sources
Tivo Bolt+
Oppo BDP-103
Apple TV
PS4
Wii
Kaleidescape Cinema One x 2

Display
Panny 60 inch plasma. Since this was a combined space, a screen was out of the question

Surge Protector
Furman Elite 15

Remote
URC MX-880 (well worth the premium over a harmony, imo)

Dog
Mastiff. We've always had a mastiff and a westie. Our westie left us in 2015, and our kids are finally old enough that we can handle another dog, so will be adding one soon

And below is pretty much how the room looks most of the time. A family room that has a dog lounging about

A fantastic and clean setup indeed madhuski. Pleases the eyes definitely, something we all love to see. smile.gif

Something more:

1. Anything special in mind when you placed the sub with driver facing the left wall?
2. Did you run Audyssey on the Denon AVR-4311? How does it sound?

Thanks again for sharing. An honorable mention goes for the quality of the photos posted. smile.gif

P.s.: When you have time please visit my living room setup. (Link in my sig)

Very nice setup!! Premium equipment, great decor, and +1 for the dog:)

Also curious about the sub facing the corner. I have my dual PB12s facing inward toward my entertainment center. After measuring with ARC, it got rid of a nasty null I had between 50Hz and 80Hz.. I'm suspecting perhaps you had a similar problem, or simply to keep the driver away from your dog or daughter?

Regardless, simply a great clean setup smile.gif

cheers

Mogorf - I've seen your room many times smile.gif Very clean and modern. Re: Audyssey I do use it. I go in phases though on what I like -- audyssey flat vs xt32, and dyn eq on/off. I never use dyn volume or dolby volume.

Re: the Sub facing the wall several reasons. At first it was to keep little fingers from poking the driver when I had my Hsu and the cloth grill. With the SVS metal grill, thats less of an issue. Bill Fitzmaurice suggested turining it into the wall. I can't remember the explanation, but he said there would be sonic advantages to it. Lastly, with the SVS IFC controller, it just plain easier to make adjustments this way.

You're right, we do have similar set ups, just a slightly different flavor. Very nice looking space you've got there. I wish I had a basement to play in smile.gif.

Very clean!! I'd like my setup to be close to yours as possible, maybe once 4k tv's start being the norm i'll go from 50" to 70" biggrin.gif

This is quite solid. I really dig the look of the natural floor and window trim with that color scheme. Really makes the finish of those Songtowers pop.

I like the clean, wire-free look smile.gif

I think you also have enough wall space to upgrade to a 70"-80" screen wink.gif

Replaced the SVS SB13 with a Seaton Submersive. The wife was sceptical given the size, but good old fern hides it well enough

Here are the before/after shots to see the differrence between SubM and SVS

Great job, the overall look is very clean and classy. I especially like the window coverings and the sub hiding spot!

Very clean! Very nice set up!

Ever thought about moving the fronts a bit forward? It will improve the overall sound..

The angle of the pics makes it look like they are closer to the wall, but there's sbout 12 inches from the port to the wall (which is what I believe Jim said they needed.)

Unfortunately moving them further from the wall puts them too much in the way of the 5yo and new puppy!

It's from Dania furniture. It's not listed currently on their website (and wasn't a year ago either). It was prett cheap - $299 or so, if I remember correctly.

That's a fantastic and comfy looking setup you've put together. Wow, that sub looks like a black mini-fridge sitting in the corner but concels nicely with the live plant. Only thing that sticks out (like sore thumb) to me is the white Wii but folks gotta get their game on right.

Question: Did you use room correction and what did it set your towers at: small or large? Also, what does a power conditioner do and at what point should I look at getting one?

Thanks for sharing pics of your space!!

Whoops - that APC is a surge protector, not a power conditioner. My bad.

re: room correction, XT32 sets the towers to large, but I change it back to small and let the sub handle the bass duties

Thanks - we've always been a Mastiff & Westie family, and had the misfortune of losing both our long time friends in the same year. Winston is our new mastiff pup ("teen" now). With two young kids, may be a little longer until we adopt a westie and become a two dog house again

How does your DSS sub compare the Submersive you had, and what prompted you to change?

Subjectively its indistinguishable. I don't have my SMS anymore, so can't do basic measurements to see how they'd compare.

Regarding why I changed? To find the right balance of WAF-to-performance

Does(/did) your mastiff ever watch stuff on TV? What type of carpet do you have and did you put any sort of padding under it? It is a very nice setup.
