Hooking up the right laptop to my HDTV?

Hi Folks-
Interested in your opinions.
I just bought a HD TV and would like to hook up a laptop to it to play videos that I find on the internet such as Ted Talks and Youtube. What are the minimum specs I need on the lap top to do that and perhaps play medium quality videos from my hard drive? Is a dedicated graphics card a must?

Thanks!

Steve F.

HDMI out is all you need on your laptop. I have my Toshiba Satellite A660-1EU hooked up to my Denon AVR via HDMI and then to the TV. It made the TV into a Smart TV.

I also have wireless keyboard and mouse so I can control the laptop from the couch. I's a living room HT setup. (Pics in my sig.)

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply
Good to hear. I was told by someone that in order to play
internet videos and videos from my hard drive correctly i needed to have at least an i3, i5 computer and a motherboard starting with the number 4. Don't know if that's true or not. Somebody also just mentioned accomplishing what i need through a WD player. That will allow watching videos from my computer and then I suppose I would have to hook up an ethernet cord or some other way of watching internet videos on my TV.

Thanks for your post

That is true of course, but I can say, in general, and without looking through all the laptops available on the market today, if your laptop has HDMI out, you are good to go. My Toshiba has an i5 processor.

For music I use Foobar2000 and for film its KMPlayer. YouTube works fine via Firefox.
