Yeah, with the acoustimass module I'm expecting flat resonse for sure.
Damn man, I did not know you already lived in the middle east? Pretty cool. You have to find a way to get stationed in Hawaii

No prob man. Glad you found it useful.

Ha, I'm not worried about crusading around town... Until it becomes a problem...haha. I'm more worried about waving to people with my left hand or some other asinine way to offend the locals.

Oh, don't think I didn't catch your post before your edit. No you can't finish my boxes.

I had to leave the flatpack at the very last minute because the box I tried to ship the it in was too big. Since I was flying out a few hours later that day, I had to scramble to find a place to store them. In came @asoofi1 to the rescue! He's letting me use a small nook in his basement storage room for a bit. I wouldn't ask him to babysit for the entire 2 years, so I am going to have to find another place to put the for the long term until I get back home.

Yep, got here on the 5th of August. Two long years... Think the wife is retiring after this assignment and we are thinking VA will be our permanent home, until I am ready to retire at least.

No, I meant that you already lived in Iraq and Afghanistan. I thought this was your first time over there.

Virginia is cool. Seems to be the home theater capital. All the nice home theaters in the theater forum seem to all be in NOVA. I am sure Big has allot to do with that. When you get back we are going to have to have a super GTG. I can only imagine all the new stuff we will see by them

I don't know WTF happened to that video. It was by far the coolest video that I found on Youtube showcasing the awesomeness of Qatar. Probably their government stepping in to take it down because it was too cool... I'm kinda regretting not copying it and just posting up on my channel.
Dude, that SUCKS you weren't able to ship them. Is it possible Asoofi or Nathan or myself could get them shipped for you?

BTW Subbed to the new thread!

Yeah man, tell me about it. I spent the better part of Sunday packing up the wood in four seperate pretty packages, only to get shut down by USPS. I literally had no more time to go anywhere else to try to ship them out.

I'll figure something out over the next few weeks. Last thing I want to do is to cause any hassle for anyone, ya know.

Whatever this is, it's not supposed to exceed 108"...

The boxes I attempted to ship were these from uhaul which measure 48"W x 4"D x 33"H. Not optimal (much less designed for shipping), but it's the only thing I could find that would fit the panels. Guess I initally measured the "girth" wrong because the USPS told me the total was something like 133" IIRC.

So yeah, it was tough to find the right box and I didn't time to attempt to fabricate anything myself. Just sucked the way everything played out. I want to say each box weighed around 50lbs, so it was well under the 70lb weight limit.

Probably the only time I've ever experienced girth having a negative consequence...

Here is a quick look at my neighborhood for anyone interested.

Song is called Labrinth - Earthquake ft. Tinie Tempha. I added a little infra something in Audacity, so consider this the bass boosted version of the song. I've decided to boost the lowend on any music I incorporate into my vids...just because I can.

Doha is a nice place.
Been there and so many more.

It is a big room and all concrete construction and maybe marble floor.
You should re-think using the BOSE Jewell system!
I think for such a room, high effecient speaker like horn and a couple descent subs.

I am not a fan of horn speakers to start (my personal preference is a lay back speaker, but my room is small/medium size), but it is a big and open space you got.
Many small horn loaded speakers are available now a day.

Just a sugestion.

Ray

Ha, we still haven't even received our house hold goods from Virginia yet. Hopefully it will come this weekend.

Definitely would have thrown a few boxes together already if I would have been able to ship the flat packs that @Gorilla83 made for me before I left. I wasn't able to ship them because the shipping box I was trying to use was too large, so they are chilling at Asim's house for the time being.

Going to have to find a cabinet/furniture maker out here.

On top of that, I am still going to have to get an electrician to run a dedicated 20a line and I STILL have to purchase a new amp for the 24's. Might be a bit before I get everything up and running...

I bet your enclosures will cost more than the $25 I spent for two in cambodia. Of course they wont be built with hand tools and nails. My speaker cutout looked egg shaped. Thankfully @PassingInterest came through and mailed me two plywood "rings" that allowed for mostly airtight cabinets.

Well, somebody (this guy) remembered his jig, so hopefully won't need any reachback support.

Now I gotta figure find my damn router.

Like an idiot I didn't bring my tools with me when I moved. I remember thinking is only two years why would I need tools. That was a poor decision.

Can't wait to see the blinged out box you will be able to get in Doha...I think solid gold would be an option.

Because 33 plus 33 plus 4 plus 4 plus 48 is 122", which is over 108" total (girth plus length). 108" cubed is 729 cuft on the other hand (if anyone could use a box that big, it'd be a sub guy. ). 108 cubic inches on the other hand wouldn't be very big at all....

Ha, I'll see if I can get the boxes gold plated if it's cheap enough.

Seriously, I'll do it.

Ah, thanks for weighing in man. Only girth I've ever measured was in circumference, so I wasn't getting how they were measuring...

Here is a perspective shot of my space.

The projector screen mounted on the far wall is 133" diagonal.

Yes, it covers the doorway a bit, but... you only live once, right?

Yeah that girth plus length stuff is kinda weird, but USPS isn't the only one, UPS for individuals' shipments has a bigger combined number to work with (165 in) using the girth/length thing. Believe it relates more to the work rules for the individuals in those organizations who have to handle the packages; commercial freight services don't normally have such limits as they'll use equipment/manpower appropriate to the shipment.

So, I'm kicking around ideas about the boxes I want to build.

Here is a sim of 32cubic ft ported vs 11 cubic foot sealed (a little bit larger than the sealed I was originally planning on going with).

Would the post velocity be an issue????

Ported box would be approximately 96"W x 42"H x 16"D. One in front and one nearfield.

Last edited by popalock; 09-17-2014 at 12:08 AM. Reason: Port chuffing is definitely going to be an issue.lol. Found a few references that say I need to try to keep it under 40m/s.
