I am new to DTV, H/T, HDTV and Receivers. Untill just last year (2006) I was stuck in the world of Analog TV viewing.
It all started last year w/ my first Receiver and a Digital TV (replaced a 1990 JVC 26" analog TV- that is still working great!). Then I bought a Sony KD-34XBR970 just this year. I'm into gaming w/ my boys and also needed something that could handle OTA analog, SD and HD signals due to not having cable or sat. at this time. I got the Xbox360 Pro console at the same time I bought XBR970. The speakers hooked up to the receiver at the moment are cheapo HTIB type (40w). The sub that came w/ the HTIB set was a passive type and couldn't be used though. A friend had a (40w) powered sub he gave me and it works great w/ the tiny sat speakers too. In the 2nd to last picture you can see the sub. My room is very small 7' x 8' w/ only 1 window right above TV, so I do get a lot of sound (noise) from the cheapo speakers and no glare from outside lights or sun.
You can also see a indoor antenna on top of the TV in the 1st picture and on top of the A/V stand in the 2nd picture. It worked ok w/ my old analog TV but had some trouble w/ Digital OTA reception (would drop signals every few min. and was driving wife nuts) so I built my own. I have it outside on roof top and my signal strength is at 98 out of 100 now w/ no drop outs at all (wife is happy) Currently using the 360 for watching DVD's.
I have been out of work on disability for two years after being rear-ended in 2004, so money has been very tight. Maybe in a few years I will be able to up-grade the whole system, until then I'm loving this over my old 26" analog TV and mono speaker!
The 360 pro console went up in smoke (overheated) Aug. 3rd and thankfully I had paid for a 1yr. warrenty through Gamestop. So all I had to do was take it back to them. All the pro consoles they had in stock where however over 6 months older than what I bought, so I asked if I could up-grade to a Elite. I was told NO! I said I don't want an older pro and the sales person said I could check w/ another store close by. When I went in, all they had in pro consoles were also over 6months older than mine, the sales person said I could up-grade to the Elite. I jumped on it, after the sale was completed I told him about the other store saying no and he said it was a managers choice on doing up-grades!The Elite 360 does a much better job with DVDs via HDMI (1080i) than the Pro 360 ever did via component (480p).
I still have not replaced the HTIB speakers yet. I have started working again after almost 3yrs. of recovery from two auto accidents in less than 1yr., so maybe next spring when taxes roll in I will be able to at least up grade those weak cube speakers.

For the price these are selling for they sound great and are child/cat proof!
Yeah, about a year and a half ago my son who was 1 at the time figured out how to pull off the grill from my B&W LCR60S3 and what did he find beneath it? A bright shiny button to push. I only recently replace the tweeter but I am still a little concerned that he might push it in again.
I have 2 cats and a dog along with a grandson under 1yr old, so the metal grills will let me sleep w/o worry.
Still working out the placement of the surrounds, room config. not helping.

If you want to be friends on through xbox network, just send me a request through X-Box Live and mention AVS in the request.
Only 192lbs if my memory serves me right.
Not really enough room for stands because it's a high traffic area. So I thought about other alternatives and this is where I am now.
I had an old Sony Trinitron analog TV as one of my first. For a 27 inch, that thing weighed a ton. I had a Protron 32 inch display after that. That TV weighed at least 2 tons!!!
The wife and I went looking at new HT seating wow so many options and prices have come down quite a bit too in 5 years. In the meantime I picked up a new chair from IKEA because our current sofa is only a 3 seater and anytime we have a couple friends over for movie night someone or both end up sitting on beanbags. The chair I got from IKEA is from the POÄNG series in medium brown with a Alme black fabric cushion. I've gotta say this chair is so comfortable, I may end up getting a few more after selling the sofa but idk.
Here is a picture of the IKEA chair for those who may be interested and the matching footrest
