If any one has suggetions on upgrades or improvements, I would apreciate them.

I just discovered I am going to have to get power conditioning due to dirty power feeding back from the tread mill. One forum talked aout the APC J10.... any thoughts?

Nice setup!

BTW: Did you get that stand from Ikea? It looks like the Lack stand with a couple supports removed.. Am I correct? I think it looks better without the them. I might picking one up soon but it's a long drive from my house.

Thanks it really coming together. Just need to work on upgrading some of my equipment.
Yes the stand is from Ikea, it works great, just didn't put in two of the shelfs when I assembled it. It's an ideal height for the centre. Looks kinda custom at a cheap price.

Sweet deal!

This works great as it's stylish, low profile and cheap! I have a low drop ceiling, so this stand is perfect! Just one more question if you don't mind? Can you see the holes that where used for mounting those extra panels? are the holes big or pretty subdued?

Thanks man

Does anyone have recommendations on were to start upgrading or room improvements?
Primary use is for movies and sports.
Here is what I have:

Optima 6800 with the 92" screen
Pioneer VSX-D709S (old)
Pioneer DV-C503 (old)
Athena P1, S1, C1's (old but lovin)
In Wall rears (can't remember the make at the moment)
PS2
Bell ExpressVu 3100 not HD

I'm thinking: Power conditioning (APC J15) - reciever (HK 254) - HTPC (upgrade existing desk top) - Bell HD - PS3 or Blue ray Player or Drive for HTPC

This is a work in progress with a lot of research needed.
Any input welcome...... even criticism (constructive)

THX

Well, I sent in my 6800 to Optima yesterday due to the "high pitched whine", lets see how long it takes to get it back.

Well Optima said there was nothing wrong and they are sending it back to me.... argh
The theory they gave me was "It might have been making that noise you heard due to the high altitued being on"

Are you wanting to upgrade your room or just your equipment?

Mostly the upgrades I want to do are on my equipment. Although, modifications that I can do to the room to improve sound and viewing can never hurt. Basically I am open to any sugestions.

To me it just depends on what your budget is. You're gonna get so many opinions on what is good, and that all depends on what that person owns. Just gonna have to do research and see what you like.
My last equipment purchase....

My stupidity made me think that my new receiver, RXV-1800, would light up with DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD when I played HDDVD's. Problem is you have to have a player that bitstreams the signal to the receiver for it to decode and I didn't have that. Now I'm waiting for the next gen of bluray players, hoping the price will come down, before I purchase one. I've got a xbox360 with the hddvd add on and an
A3 player. I would have went out and bought a PS3 but it won't bitstream either and you can't control it with your univerasl remote because it's bluetooth.

My point is I ran out and thought I needed a new receiver and I didn't do enough research. My old one would have been just fine with the equipment I had until I got the right player. I'm hoping the price will come down on the panny bd30k when the 50k comes out.

I've got the Studio series speakers with the 890's for fronts. They are fine and sound great, but the rears are a lot bigger than I thought they would be. I didn't realize how large they would be hanging on my walls.

You can always look at sound treatments on the walls as well to help with the first reflection points if you want to make improvements to the room. They can be decorative so they don't stand out so much. Will it help? I'm no sound expert and I couldn't tell you if the ones I put up have helped.

Hope my exeriences and mistakes help.

Thanks Wazzey,
OH Man now you really got my thinking (gears turning). I'm thinking "chicken or the egg"
What you are saying makes perfect sense. Here is what I was originally thinking:

1) power conditioner APC (J15) or similar, testing needed as treadmill causes video interferance on projector

2) reciever (HK247 or the up coming 254 depending on reviews) Not sold on these units my current unit only has s-video outs, sounds not bad (DTS). Don't like that there is no HDMI or upscaling. Would like to go 7.1 one day, I am pre wired.

3) HD satelite reciever from Bell Expressvu. Torn on weather to go hd or hd PVR as one day I would like to put in a HTPC. leaning towards the PVR for the "hassle" factor

4) PS3 for Blue Ray and gaming. I did not know about the remote being blue tooth, again research needed.

5) speakers, rears to fill 7.1, I am happy with my subs, docked fronts and center, I just need to learn how to calibrate better.

Now I think the order may need to be changed up. Thoughts?

Budget wise I am a very thrifty person, some have even dared to call me cheap LOL. That is where the research comes in, I am willing to shop around and look for the best bang for my buck. I would love to have the best of the best but it just is not in my budget at this time.

Thanks again

Thank you for taking these pictures, much appreciated!

They did help even though it wasn't what I was refering to. I was wondering if you had visible holes left from removing those extra selfs. I don't think it will be a problem as your equipment seems to cover them. As will mine once laid in place. Thanks again

Well I got my projector back from Optima and it is still making the "whining" noise although not as loud. Now I am seeing diagonal "waves" across the screen. ARGH.
I think it might be a bad connection or interference on the s-video cable. Can wait to get the newer PS3 on HDMI. I am still looking for improvement sugestions. THX.

I picked up a PS3 Metal Gear 4 bundle today and can't wait to get it home and hook it up. I hope there are no problems like some are reporting.
