Here's a few shots of my 5.1 system/living room. Some of you may have seen it on some other forums.

Then:

Last year:

Now(2009):

Equipment:

50" Samsung plasma display (HP-T5054)
Pro-Ject Debut III/Phono Box II
Philips DVD963SA DVD/SACD player
Pioneer VSX-1015TX a/v receiver

Speakers:

Polk Audio RT7 (mains)-vintage
Polk Audio CSi30 (center)
SVS PB13-Ultra
RCA X88AV (surrounds)-vintage

Now my simple 5.1 (+1) system.

looks nice, reminds me of my setup. see "My LCD Setup" post near the top of this forum.

is there a reason that your front left and right speakers are away from the wall so far? I assume its to reduce the amount of bass they produce.

But still looks great, simplistic yet functional and very eligant (sp?).

Thanks very much for your compliment! I have them out to reduce reflections as much as possible. It has really opened up the sound.

Hey croseiv, I would like to ask you about the box you have used to raise the tv. It looks like it matches the stand.

I have been trying to decide what to do with my center speaker as it would have blocked the lower part of the tv if placed in front and I really preferred not to wall mount it behind. I came to tthis forum to find pics and get ideas and what you have done looks like it would be perfect for my setup.

Did you bulid it yourself? I only need to raise mine a few inches because my center is not that big.
Here is a link to my tv stand
http://www.sauder.com/furniture/product.asp?p=902

Since it is the build it yourself type you can order extra parts from Sauder.
I wonder if I could build something similar to yours with an extra part or two so it will match the stand perfectly. What do you think?

thanks

Hi trenz1-

Yes, the stand used for the display was built for another purpose, but I had stored it in my shed, and when I got my display I stumbled across them and found they would be perfect for getting the TV above the center speaker. It is simple to build consisting of 2" X 4"s nailed together with a 1/4" sheet of plywood nailed on top. I stained it to blend with the credenza. I thought it came out pretty well. It probably cost a total of $10.00 to build.

Happy New Year!

Boy! Waiting on the PB13-Ultra is hard. I'm trying to decide what my first movie will be (probably Star Wars ep II).

Just wanted to say thanks again for the display stand idea. I finished it the other day and it looks awesome.

I have to say I'm very pleased with my new PB13-Ultra. It is superb with music and movies. With movies it has been a great experience getting that movie theater-like rumble in my HT.

Hello "croseiv"!

Nice to hear from you again! The new photo is impressive. I almost feel like I'm in the room when I view it.
I have a question for you....Are you familiar with the Auralex products.
http://www.auralex.com/literature/Au...talog_2006.pdf.
I'm speaking primarily about their isolation platforms (The Subdude) for the subwoofer.
I've attached a few photos of my subwoofer being supported by one. After several failed attempts of making my room rattle and buzz free, I learnd about this platform. It has been the best $50 bucks I've spent! No more rattles or buzzes, but most important, the sonic quality of the sub has actually improved. It's much tighter and more responsive. Now obviously with the SVS, performance improvement is the least of your worries, but being that your room seems to be familyroom environment amd may have items that may not be conducive to the SVS's "low end theory", I thought "Subdude" would be of might be of some interest to you.

Regards

Nah, I haven't given too much thought to one of those. Not sure it would help me as the sub sits on carpet on a concrete slab. Besides, I'm still enjoying the "good vibrations."

I am starting to wonder about room treatments though, so that is a possibilty, but I always seem to get bogged down by the next upgrade...

New system shot. I thought the ambient lighting gave the wood a nice hue.

I would really appreciate it if you could you tell me the dimensions (WxHxD) and model of your TV stand? Also, the height of the top shelf?

I'm looking for something just like it for my new 52" LCD - it closely matches the style and color of my other furniture. Also, is that a drawer in the bottom right? Or is it a door like the bottom left?

Thanks
Norm

Hi Norm! I'd be glad to give you the dimensions:

Width=50"
Height=25"
Depth=21.25"
Top component areas are 6.5" by 22"
Bottom areas are 8.75" by 22"

It's a door to the bottom right. Behind it resides a Project III turntable.

As for the brand, I don't know. I spent a fair amount of time looking for "the right thing" and finally found it at a local furniture store.

dumb question time!

could you flip the top sub? so that both subs were next to each other and the ports were away from each other? or vice versa....might be a cool look as well

So Croseiv.

One SVS PB13U just wasn't enough, huh?! Geez!!!
Do both sub have the same settings or are they calibrated differently due to the stacking arrangement?

Did you try positioning the second sub in another location before the stack configuration or was stacking the original mission?

Are you getting balanced low end performance.

And lastly, do you use both subs when listening to music?!

Regards.
