We've been using coconut oil in our popcorn machine for past 2 years.

I thought all coconut oil was same, last week we bought from Costco the Carrington Farms brand on the left.
It is so much better tasting than the Lou Ana brand on the right.

Thanks for the review I wondered how the Costco product compared. I was reluctant to try it since I found Lou Ana so much better than the coconut oil offered at Target, and I didn't want to get stuck with a large quantity of unlikeable oil.

I haven't seen the Costco coconut oil yet. How does the price compare?

$16 for the Costco container. I don't remember how much the Lou Ana is. I get it at Walmart; I think around $6.

Yeah, I think I'm paying around $6, too. Do you know the size of the Carrington Farms brand? The Lou Ana bottle is 31.5 oz.

Agreed. This stuff is DELICIOUS on popcorn (personal opinion, of course), but pricey:

http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-Organic-Virgin-Coconut/dp/B003B3OOPA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354806066&sr=8-1&keywords=coconut+oil

To save $$$, I'll combine it with the cheaper, yellow Paragon stuff that I have a gallon of. That particular coconut oil is not bad, but isn't as flavorful as the Nature's Way. Combining the 2 works well and saves a little money. I've found the prepackaged oil/salt (Great Northern) is pretty gross compared to the above + flavacol. I do like the GN corn itself though.

I was getting peanut popping oil from a buddy that worked for an oil packaging company for free until he retired earlier this year. Then I bought a container of coconut oil from Snappy Popcorn expecting it to be much better. The truth was that while both were delicious I actually prefer the peanut oil by a slight margin. What puts it over the top for me though is peanut oil is much lower in saturated fat and is liquid at room temps so less of a mess than coconut.

Now I have never used Carrington Farms or Lou Ana coconut oil but I think I am sticking with peanut popping oil. The only thing I need to be cautious about is keeping it away from anyone with peanut allergies.

We used to use the Pop Weaver's Coconut Oil pre measured paks, but have switched to the canola oil butter burst. 80% less calories, which I really don't care about, but the taste is excellent. We have been eating more popcorn than ever.

Well, we tried the Carrington Farms brand coconut oil from Costco this weekend. It is definitely different from the Lou Ana.

The first thing I noticed was the smell. Lou Ana is almost odorless, while the Carrington Farms oil has a very sweet and distinct smell of coconut. Now, I love coconut, but not with my popcorn. The small was somewhat reminiscent of the old-fashioned popcorn balls, and I think it would be excellent for that. But, for movie-style popcorn, it just didn't work for us. The smell was too sweet and fragrant, and overpowered the taste of the popcorn.

I'll be switching back to Lou Ana, after the Carrington Farms container is done.

Looked like a really good deal to me and I had been looking for some anyhow (see above).

171 ratings on Amazon and 152 are 5 star.

I had been using the small containers of Lou Ana, and never had any go bad. It seems to last forever. (I've also used it to season cast iron pans, since it doesn't go rancid as quickly as other oils.)

I'm going to try one of the Amazon options next time.
