i originally used black electrical tape to cover the grids. It gave off to much reflection though so ive since covered them with 1 inch black felt tape instead. now it pretty much all blends together nicely. can barely see the grids.

Question regarding this setup.. I was wondering If I used a sheet of insulation or if I built a frame out of wood and used Roxul safe and sound to stuff in there.. If I ran the strands of wire through the roxul would it be ok? I would need to do this because I would have acoustic panels in that spot.

I dont see why this would be a problem. The strands themselves dont give off heat from what i know. Only thing i would worry about is the illuminator box. It needs breathing room.
Not sure exactly what you mean about the putting the strands through the roxul though. I hope you dont mean running each strand one at a time.
I'd group the strands into one rope and make a hole in the roxul to put the rope through. After that, then you can branch out the strands.
