So basically in the popcorn machine's kettle, there is a spring holding a piece down so that no popcorn kernals can get under it. I'm finding though that once popcorn starts popping some kernals make their way under that piece and stop the kettle's arm from spinning.

Upon inspection it looks like the spring is a little bit too loose so it doesn't hold down the metal part.

Is there a way to fix this?

Stretch the spring, shim the spring, or replace it.
