Jody.jpg 115k .jpg file Team,

First off, happy holidays.

As many of you know, I am finishing my basement which includes my very first home theater system. Since I have a blank slate to work with (no construction), I want to take every step necessary acoustically and from a soundproofing perspective. Below is my list. Please feel free to add to it or question certain items.

1. Green glue between 2 5/8" drywall sheets. This treatment will be used in the entire lower level on all walls and ceilings.
2. Back boxes for all speakers (system is all in-wall, in-ceiling)
3. Soundproof insulation in all walls mentioned in point 1 (Roxul Safe n Sound)
4. Sound panels - trial and error as the home theater is playing
5. Green Glue sealant on all mentioned walls and ceiling gaps
6. All doors will be solid core throughout the lower level
7. Bass traps in the screen left and right corners
8. Added a solid core door at the bottom of the stairs
9. Staggered wall construction
10. The thickest pad a plushest carpet I can find!

Matthew,

You posted this in the wrong forum (this is Theater Room Items & Accessories) and you should consolidate your posts into ONE single build thread. Trust me when I say that the people who can answer your questions (now and later) are MUCH more responsive to a single build thread than 15 separate threads when you think of the next question.

just trying to help......

When you're planning you theater build and you want to soundproof as much as possible, you really need to spend some research time. Every single topic has been covered 50 times and there are some basics that you just cant skip. I read every night for almost a year before I felt like I could tackle my project.

1) air tight room
2) air tight room
3) that means MASS on the walls and ceilings
4) also means sealed solid core door
5) EVER penetration into the theater room must be addressed.
6) ANY contact, wood to wood, from theater room to existing house WILL transfer bass into the rest of the house (i.e, the need to decouple the room with clips and hat track.
7) all of the construction needed for soundproofing will be wasted IF you run standard heating and air into the space. You have to isolate the HVAC with either a dedicated system, minisplit, or dead vents.

There are services that will plan your build and give guidance, they are worth the money and I wish I would have done that instead of figuring out everything on my own (through 1000s of hours of reading here and other places) That would have knocked out a bunch of time for me.

Not really. I would just copy your post and paste it into a new topic in the "Dedicated Theater Design & Construction" forum. You'll get great advice over there (not that you wouldn't have here, it's just more active and appropriate in that forum)

Cheers!
