Low Voltage LED Lights

I am planning to install a lot of LED lights, each one no more than 15W. It turns out most such LED lights expect line voltage as input. That means I need to run regular 120V line cables and install cans/housings for each light which adds up to a significant expense.

I expected that by now one could buy all kinds of DC low voltage LED lights. I would then have a centralized DC power and from there just run low voltage wires and user simpler housings (less heat, only low voltage). That should reduce the cost significantly, especially due to the wiring. No such luck though. I did find at least one such light that has an external LED driver. However, is that a bad path to take considering that there don't seem to be that many options out there?
