Immersit competitor for D-Box

THEIR KICKSTARTER IS LIVE!!!!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...n-device-under

I dont post often, hope for the most part this is the right section to post in, I wanted to get every ones thoughts on this upcoming product, the kickstarter for it will be in September but just overall, I wanted to get people initial thoughts on, they state its release price will be between $800-1200.00, and that it can support a couch with people up to 1100lbs, it will have an active mode for movies they have programmed and a passive mode that judges movement on the audio.

Its an interesting concept, I sent them a question about noise, since it is air driven, Im curious if you can hear the pump or however it works, waiting for a response.

Here is their website

Thanks for sharing! This looks pretty interesting! I found an additional article describing the functionality between movies and gaming.
http://www.engadget.com/2015/07/20/i...ion-simulator/

I like the idea for a couch, but I would also like to see narrower options to fit the current home theater seating options.

Regarding the noise, I wonder with the soundtrack if you would notice the compressor, but maybe you could also locate the compressor outside of the theater.

They got back to me... no info on noise levels, they are onto prototype 2.3... they said once they finish prototype 2.5, they will start releasing more detailed specs including noise levels.

thats where it could get expensive pretty quick, you would have to get a unit for each theater chair or make a platform that support a few of the chairs staying under that max load, this was more couch concept... but yeah I think its doable for sure.

Did they combine a buttkicker-like shaker with the pneumatic system? I'd be surprised if the pneumatic setup could produce vibration fast enough without being really noisy.

The hard part here is the coding of the games/movies. If they were able to just use the existing D-box tracks, they might have a chance (and I assume D-box is not looking to hand out that work for free). Otherwise, they're going to have to encode everything themselves - and that's a lot of $$/man-hours for a start-up when there's already competition in the game. And I assume they'd also want you to run the movie from the PC/laptop that's running the system, too, which may further complicate the setup.

actually one advantage is they are working on customer software that will let customer create their own motion sequence for movies, this is a great idea and something Im looking forward to messing with because you will be able to share your creations with others and try different ones for the same movie and so on, this could easily out grow D-Box movie library offering.

Im not sure about the buttkicker effects, they are releasing more detail mid next month so should have an answer then, I dont plan to remove my buttkickers from my couch anyways so I have both options.

I was thinking on building some type of platform that all 3 chairs in my last row would sit on. Maybe a 100lbs or less and have the device that they came up with go underneath that. Just an idea. I emailed the company and offered my HT room for them to use it a demo spot for AVS guys like us. I live in the Chicago land suburbs and if I could get a discount on price or such I would be happy to have it at GTG meet like the last one I hosted that would be just for that product and have groups come in and try it out.

yeah I mentioned something similar for here in LA since I have more of the every day mans home theater verses a completely dedicated home theater. So fingers crossed

I can't see air pistons transferring vibrations as quickly and accurately as an electromechanical device. Air compresses, think about air shocks

Latest news letter, not much was mentioned just that they are done with the third prototype and that you will be able to pick what ever color you want on the kick starter.

Latest News Letter from Immersit

Talked about them being at IFA Berlin tradeshow and their booth number, and some behind the scenes of the studio they work in.

http://us11.campaign-archive1.com/?u...1&e=74470d0f93

Some insider information, they are aiming for end of the month September to launch the Kickstarter but and Im totally fine with this, they want to make sure the product is really stable and suited for production before they launch the kickstarter. Im okay with a company that really cares about their product and wants to make sure it works exactly as expected.

No new news as of late, getting closer to the estimated kickstarter date assuming no delays or issues arise.

I talked to them last week, they are not going to be at CEDIA but they are going to CES. Disappointing for me as I was looking forward to trying it out in Texas in a few weeks.

Well they missed September, and it looks like they are going to miss October too. I really want to see the kickstarter launch but it looks like it might be early next year now.

You know I really want to see this launch too but at the same time, I rather wait for a better, stable, and more reliable product that will do well and succeed verses flop so Ive gone this long without motion seats lol I can wait a little longer.

It's not the waiting I mind, I just know from experience that once a company misses a target date without acknowledging it means bad stuff behind the scenes.

I am not trying to say they are never going to release or that they have bad intentions, what I am saying is that when stuff like this happens it means 2 things. 1 the people in charge are in over their heads or 2 the people in charge are not the people actually making the product.

Just look at Coin and a whole bunch of other kick starters, the ones who don't acknowledge the dates they miss are the ones who are poorly run. Someone should have released a statement back in the middle of September saying "Hey guys great stuff coming soon, we want everything to be perfect and smooth so we are now targeting late November for the launch of our Kick Starter.

They did nothing of the sort now here we are 6 days into October and we don't even know if Immersit is aware they missed their target date.

Or they feel that the word of their product is not reaching enough ears and worried of the kickstarter flopping so maybe they are hoping that the CES exposure will be what they need to launch a successful kickstarter, either way thinking positive.

I don't think you read what I wrote, even if they felt like waiting for CES would help them. They needed to get in front of missing their own end of September date they have been touting.

Let me make things clear for you in nearly everything they released they mentioned something about kick starter and the end of September. Including their last update from August, yet now we are in October and no mention of having missed the target or moving.

You see that right there is bad, it shows a lack of accountability, it makes me question whether or not I can trust this company with 1000 or 1200 dollars of my money. You see moves like this scare me, even if its because Doc Brown showed up and told them hey wait for CES because that's the land of milk and honey. I don't care that they missed their date I don't care why they missed their date, I care they did not inform us and that they acted nonchalantly.

I have seen other companies do similar things, and here is what follows the kick starter gets funded with target release of summer 16. Summer rolls around with no updates, people complain and make a fuss, still no update. Now it's winter and we get our first update in months. New date is March 17 June rolls around and still no update on why they missed their March target. Then right before the 3 year mark they announce they are going to ship right away or they where in over their heads and thanks for the cash.

Now understand I am not saying this is what will happen I am saying things like this make me scared to do business with them.

Well they have stated before a few times that end of September was a soft goal for launching the kickstarter if they felt the product was really ready, it wasnt set in stone, so again Im not concerned not to mention your main argument is of a company already taking your money and not doing anything, they have not even done that. Yes there have been starters and companies that missed the deadline and didnt do anything but there is just as many company who missed the deadline and in some cases repeatedly but still released a really nice product. Either way no since in getting worked up over it at this stage.

I feel we are just not understanding one another, I agree I haven't given them any money yet so at least we have that. My whole and really only point is that companies like this (Start Ups and Crowd funding) that demonstrate poor communication have a very bad track record.

I don't know why you keep twisting what I write into some other thing, maybe I am not being clear,

THE LACK OF COMMUNICATION AT THIS STAGE SCARES ME, RIGHT NOW AND UNTIL THE KICKS STARTER BEGINS AND ENDS WE SHOULD BE BOMBARDED WITH UPDATES.

Not trying to be rude, I just thought maybe this way you would be able to see my main concern because you got it wrong twice.

Another concern I have is this lack of communication makes people like me scared. Which means not enough people will back the project and it won't get funded.

Unless you plan to fund their whole campaign by yourself, and if that's the case you should have just spent the 10 grand and got DBOX

I realize as a read this post I come off as an ******* that is not my intention I wrote this in a well meaning way. I would edit but then I don't know how to make my concerns clear.

So I spoke to them about shaking peoples confidence and so on about missing the kickstarter and look they sent out a news letter and yeah I agree with their reasons but yes they should have released this much sooner unless they were waiting to confirm CES first maybe but yeah...

I like what the release says but, I hate that it took so long and the fact that you had to draw it out of them. I don't think CES will do that much to help launch this product DBOX in home already exists if anything their presence will anger DBOX. Who will then lower their own price and crush Immersit.

Either way I hope I get a product that is good quality and affordable.

Well creating competition with DBOX would be nice since right now a home unit from DBOX is around $6000-$8000 and Immersit is aiming for a price point of $800-1200, so if they retail at that price, I dont see DBOX dropping their price by $5000 to be competitive, one could only hope but no they will probably try to buy or sue Immersit first lol.

I too hope for a great quality product.

Well I can safely say this is the biggest mismanagement I have ever seen. Who is in charge of handling their PR they should be fired, a week after CES and no anything. No we had a great show lots of news coming stay tuned, no nothing that is why this will fail it's not hard to get people excited over a good product. But these guys are doing just that. And I won't even mention the CES debacle, come on Immersit get your act together.
