How to tell bonded leather from top grain?

I’ve done some searching and have read about bonded leather and top grain leather, but how do I tell which is on a chair? The chair is supposed to be top grain leather (dark brown) and vinyl on the sides and back, but there is a light tan visible at the stitching holes of the seams. And that is on the armrest, where I think it should be top grain.

What do you think? Is this armrest top grain leather? Bonded leather? Vinyl? Fake leather? The armrest was damaged in shipment, but I did not report it because I have that chair against the wall, and it isn't visible. But the part that is damaged I think illustrates my concern: this does not look like real leather.

Thanks!
