I checked out this chair today. It's virtually identical to a recliner that Wal-Mart sells (some don't carry it, from what I've read here and in other HT forums). FWIW, the Wal-Mart one lists for $199, but is usually on sale (at least at the store near me). It's currently going for $125.

The only differences I noted in the 2 chairs is that the metal frame of the Jennifer chair had some squared tubing, while the Wal-Mart chair had rounded tubes. I was unable to measure the Wal-Mart chair, so I can't say they were identical size, although the styles and leather quality on each were identical, as far as I could tell.

It's really not a bad chair for the price, but don't expect more than what you're paying for. The 2 things I didn't like about the chair:

(1) I'm guessing the reclining mechanism is not very sturdy. The pull handle is plastic. The footrest at Wal-Mart wouldn't stay in the upright position, so that probably doesn't bode well for the strudiness of the mechanism.

(2) The footrest only seemed to come up about 3/4 way (on the one at Jennifer's). Some might not care, but I like a full lift.

Also-- I'm concerned about durability. The showroom chair at Jennifer's already showed some scuffing and a small hole in the armrest. The rest of their showroom was in very good condition... so who knows. A friend down the street bought one of the Wal-Mart recliners a few months ago. I'll have to see how that's been holding up.

In case anyone is interested-- Dimensions of the Jennifer recliner:

38.5" x 31" x 40" (w x d x h) in its upright position. The seat is approx. 21" wide by 20.5" deep. Arm cushions are approx. 9" wide at the hand position. The total depth of the chair in its reclined postition is approx. 54".

absolutely-- be sure to run by your local Wal-Mart though! Might find an even better deal. Report back if you get any!

for me i'm just going to look...although the walmart in our area no longer carries the cheap leather chair in the store...i assumed they all were phased out from all stores.

No, it goes back all the way. I thought the same thing, but you have to push back with your back- the handle alone won't do it.

I just got back from Jenifer's and bought two of them. Shipping for one was $80, and shipping for both was $99. He told me the price before I told him where I lived, so I imagine it's a fixed price.

those look to be very nice chairs at 2 for 1 pricing...if they were worth it,they could still be a bargain with shipping.

well i went to jennifer's and checked out the chair..it is very much indeed similar to the walmart chair.i think it is a little better though.at the jennifer's i was at they had them advertised as 2 for $399...same difference.i asked how much after sale and he said $500..needless to say i had to tell him to his face he was crazy!!!he didn't like it ,but my wife got a kick out of it...

anyhow they are decent..if i were on a strict budget i wouldn't hesitate.much more comfortable than a "traditional" theater seat....and they do recline all the way back.not a good position to watch a movie anyway...if i were that far back, then me and the ol lady ain't watching the big screen at that point..

that sums it up for me.not bad,but not sam's club berkline comfort level neither...my wife did think they were okay as well...

Cool, I was wondering what the verdict would be on the chairs. Im thinking that 2 for $500 looks pretty good at this point. I may wait it out and see ;)

Thanks for the update!

Lifter-- I was talking about the footrest. It sounds like you are talking about the back position. I pushed back to recline the chair further as you did, but I didn't notice any difference in the footrest's relative position.

Does anyone else know about the footrest extension?

mike, i believe you are correct in that regard.in the chair i sat in,i couldn't get the footrest to go all the way up either.for me that would be a non-issue though.even my wife made the comment about what's the big importance in being able to recline while watching a movie...all it'll do is induce sleep..i tend to agree...i don't hink i would want to recline while watching a movie...for me footrest went up enough.for 2 for $399,not bad...$500, they can keep em!!!

FWIW - If you buy from Jennifer, be very sure you understand their return policy. Unless it's changed since my experience, they accept no returns once you accept delivery. I bought a couch, picked it up myself from their warehouse, and didn't even get it out of the van before my wife saw 6 defects in the couch through the wrapping. i took it right back (elapsed time about two hours), and they basically told me to pound sand (offered to send a repair specialist. after many letters and a day in small claims court, we got them to replace it. BAD experience. If walmart has a comparable model, their return policy is infinitely more customer friendly.

TBALRD,thanks for the info..considering the price that wlamart sales there chairs at,if you can find them...i would just simply state chair has to be taken out and inspected BEFORE is sign for acceptance of delivery.
