Wow! Great job and thanks again for the hard work, Jason! Separating 1700 files must have been a mindnumbingly wonderful experience....NOT!

Awesome!! The quality is very nice. Where do we sign up for 4? I'm in.

Are Volumes 1 & 2 the old ones or new versions?

Thanks,

Greg Hodges

Does anyone know of a good and inexpensive software package for creating 5.1 audio using AC-3 encoding?

I'm thinking of using the sound byte: "Our theater features the latest in digital sound technology ... " playing in the center channel while playing some of the audio technologies on the other channels.

Something like:

Center : "Our theater features the latest in digital ...."
Left (-10db) : "THX" "Dolby Digital"
Right (-10db) : "Sonic Goodness"
L-Rear (-10db): "DTS" "HDCD"
R-Rear (-10db): "DTS HD" "Dobly Ex"

And maybe an audio track playing on all channels...

I've found a product from Sony called Vegas Movie Studio 7 + DVD Platinum Edition that I can get at an Academic price of $89 which seems very reasonable. The production description indicates it can create 5.1 AC-3 encoded output.

Has anyone used this product? Or can anyone recommend another product?

Thanks in advance...

Cool idea and yes, Vegas will do exactly that for you. It isn't too difficult ifyou are used to using a video editor.

I got mine yesterday. THANKS A MILLION!

I must say though, for the lines that don't really require any special infleciton, I love it. I like his voice MUCH better. But I didn't think he did as good a job on the reads that required some inflection.

For instance, for my request "Let's getting ready to WAAAAAATCH" I was hoping to get something more like the wrestling line. It's read pretty straight forward. And the "you don't need no stickin' tickets..." It's just very flat. Same with the one for (NOT my request but wanted to use it anyway) "E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!" It is supposed to be a cheer. It, too, is read very flat and straight forward.

So I have mixed feelings. Some things I like MUCH better, others, not so much.

But I GREATLY appreciate mheadroom's work.

Tom

Tom. I agreee. Because of the nature of this read (it was huge) Bob and I am gareed that the price would be based on little to no direction. in other words he would take the script and read it then give me the files. Becasue I couldn;t direct him, some of the lines are a bit flat.

I'm suggesting that anyone who has lines that need a differnt inflection please jot them down with detailed nots on how to do the read. When we do vol 4 I'll be able to direct him more becaus the script will be shorter.

I finally had a chance to go through these last night.

I LOVED them - fantastic. I really liked the original voice guy on the first couple of volumes, I didn't think this guy was that great. But after listening to a bunch of the cuts last night I've changed my mind.

Thank you so much for putting this together - the quality is excellent and the filenames are clear and easy to navigate.

I got mine the other day, they sound great....thanks Jason for the hard work. I think I liked the other guy better though; as others pointed out, I think the inflection he added makes a big difference.

now off to rework my intro......

I think this set works well as a base for everything. Maybe in volume 4 we'll have him do some more dramatic lines. That would be a cool way to do future volumes.

vol 4 - Drama/suspense
vol 5 - Happy/kids
vol 6 - Comedy
vol 7 - over the top trailer guy
etc.

That way we can have themes to the volumes for different uses and such. Then people can have their names read in different ways.

Agreed - I'm already writing down new lines!

Question - I started cutting these into premade movie clips (like the Fox and Universal blend files available elsewhere here on AVS) - and they really plus those clips. The clips run in a playlist in TheaterTek giving me the introduction to my family theater, other movies now playing, and the feature coming up.

My only problem is that the volume level on these readings (Custom Theater Voiceover 3) is considerably lower than the music. The music is ripped AC3 files converted to WAV.

I've been able to adjust it by increasing the Audio Gain on the voiceover files by about 10-15db (I'm using Premiere Pro).

It works OK - but sometimes it can get a little distorted having to boost it so much.

If I lower the music too much - when the other clips in my playlist play (ripped trailers, ripped THX mpgs., etc.) they are waaaay too loud!

I guess my question is has anyone else had this problem, and if so how are you adjusting the audio in these tracks?

Excellent work. I've demoed several of the lines to others and it is the new "hit" of our HT. You truly went above and beyond for us all. Bravo.

One thing, a few of the files are names one thing and the actual spoken words are something else. I've only come across this 3-5 times and its not a big deal. Thought it was worth mentioning though for future volumes.

I normalize all my audio to match. The files have been normalized to -6 peak. For video you are supposed to stay below -10 but I find that too soft. As long as you don't go over 0 you should be fine. Since the files are already at -6, adding 10 or 15 will always result in distortion.

FlyNavy
Let me know which files so I can fix them. I did a ton of cutting and pasting of filenames and I know a screwed up along the way. i thought I caught them all. Let me know which they are so i can fix them and while I'm at it I'll double check to make sure none were missed.

OK - thanks for the info. I still hope I can figure this out.

Have you tried mixing these together with ripped AC3 from DVDs? I'm just wondering what the correct procedure would be. This was mine:

DVDShrink - to get ripped VOB of Universal or Fox chapter
VobEdit - to rip out the AC3 stream (makes a .ac3 file)
HeadAch3 - to convert AC3 to WAV (Premiere doesn't support AC3 files - may switch to Vegas for final)
Premiere Pro - to cut everything together
Debug Frameserver - to frameserve into...
TMPGEnc - to make MPGs that...
TheaterTek - can easily play in a random playlist

The ripped audio from the DVDs is sooo much louder than the voiceover dialogue. It doesn't make sense that I should lower it since it's already at the right level, right? I wonder if Premiere is just not outputting the volume loud enough?

Thanks again for any help

ok guys.....can I get just a quick lesson on how these are used. What program do you use to put these words and phrases together ? I am also wondering how to do this smoothly at the beginning of a movie, do you just play the cd and then remove it to play the movie ? Sorry, just a little lost on how to get the most out of this, although I do like it.
