I just acquired a Star Manufacturing model 49D popcorn machine on eBay. I got a GREAT deal. (Less than $100).

However, I have problem (big surprise there).

The stirrer is not moving. I can hear the motor working, but the stirrer does not turn.

Am I missing something here?

Could it just need cleaning?

Any help here (especially a manual) would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Doug

Update.

I've manged to tear the thing down and found that the motor is working. However the shaft that connects from the motor shaft to the stirrer is frozen.

I've hit the bearing in the lid with WD-40 to see if it will free it overnight.

Any other ideas or locations for parts?

Thanks,
Doug

Ok, I stuck the assembly in a vise, grabbed a big wrench and freed the shaft.

Spins just fine now!

Thanks,
Doug

Glad you got it working!

I wish I were able to answer my own threads as successfully........

Now I'm off to try to find a popper for under $100!

Cheers,
Jay

I arrived here after googling Star Model 49 Popcorn machine so i could figure out what the darn thing is worth. Picked one up after being told that it had "burned up."
Plugged it in and immediately noticed that the agitator was running but not turning. Tried WD-40, tried cleaning, wound up using my channel locks to force the shaft to rotate.... that did the trick. I picked up five packets of ready to pop from the hardware store because they always have popcorn there. Good stuff!
Funny how you stumble across these threads and discover how the same problems exist all over the country. Five years hence, some other poor slob will be trying to figure out a problem with a popcorn maker and find the two of us here, asking and answering our own questions. Do you think it's something in the popcorn?
