But what would '24' be without a mole or two? Or three? Or four? The key thing to keep in mind is that in the world of '24', every time you think Jack has finally foiled those well-dressed, well-spoken, erudite terrorists (a breed that doesn't actually exist in the real world, near as I can tell. In the real world, they wear bath towels on their heads and live in caves), there's always another layer of well-dressed, well-spoken, erudite terrorists above them. You never get to the top layer until the last couple of episodes and there will be many betrayals and double crosses along the way (for my money, Tony is really evil now; you just wait). Yes, we've seen it all before, but like Bobby Knight says: if it's inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it.

Better?

I think I'll cut my losses now instead of sticking it out like I did last season. If it turns out I was wrong and it really kicks butt this season, I'll catch up on Netflix.

It's not just a mole this season...BB described the problem as "pervasive."
Regardless, the formula for "24" is inherently one-note. Enjoy the ride, or save yourself some time and abandon it. I think the first four eps of this season are better than all but one from last season ("Damn, Jack!").

Exactly. A good ride with similar twists and turns, familiar and enjoyable. Like going to my favorite pizza joint.

That's a rather silly list to keep as there are few, if any, truly original plots left. How far do you want to go? Jack uses a gun? Seen it before. The bad guys blow something up? Seen it before. There's a political crisis brewing? Seen it before...

Tony was injected by Robocop when Tony tried to kill him in CTU's med-lab. Tony had some drug in a needle and was going to stick it in a 'defenseless' Robocop, when suddenly Robo popped up, grabbed Tony, and stuck it in his neck.

Tony 'died' in Jack's arms. However, there was no silent clock (apparently), which supposedly means he wasn't really dead, therefore he is on the TV now.

Tony was reportedly dead for about 10 minutes, but was revived. Brain damage?

Of course, we can all understand his anger now, following the death of the UberCutie.

Judging from Mia Kirshner's terrible acting the last time she was on 24, I don't think she'll be back. She must have purposely been saying her lines as if she were reading them off cue cards just to make the producers cringe. She's fabulous on the L Word which is a role she clearly likes more than Evil Mandy.

I don't agree with that assessment of Mia Kirshner's acting skills. I thought she brought everything she needed to reprise the role of Mandy for a third time. She's a stone-cold assassin; what, you want her to play ditsy? Happy? Deranged? And I'll bet she'd jump at the chance to reprise that role, who wouldn't? Actors love to play menacing villains. And a paycheck is a paycheck, after all. She'll soon need the work.

Teri would be great to bring back from the dead as well. There was something about Nina and the role she played I thought she was excellant. I wonder how many have been killed off that were somewhat regulars on the show?

Oh please, Teri was a skank! Must be a Milf fantasy syndrome.

Well, having already introduced the whole Nina concept in this thread, we shouldn't also forget that Jack and Nina had (Cough) chemistry, and Tony wouldn't stop sniffin' around Nina. IIRC, there was a chorus of 'Jungle Boogie' in the background every time she breezed past Tony. This was all
pre-Michelle, of course.

Well, let's figure it out...

Nina
Teri Bauer
Edgar - Computer geek
Cancer-Stricken CTU boss (Mason?) who drove the plane/nuke into the desert
Michelle Dessler
(George?) Chapelle - CTU boss shot in the head by Jack
Milo - Peach Fuzz mustachioed computer geek last year
Samwise Gamgee
Jack's Dad
I think Jack's bro, Graeme
Tony Almeida
Curtis (one of my fav's)
President David Palmer
First Lady Sherry Palmer
President Charles Logan ??? - presumed dead???

Mandy was given immunity, a full pardon, and told that she would have to leave the country in season 4, remember she tried to assassinate Palmer and he was helping Logan who was then President at the time of the immunity/pardon agreement. She certainly would be breaking that agreement considering 24 except during the season 7 prequel has taken place in the US. I believe that is why she has not appeared since then.

The very fact that they "let her get away" instead of killing her off probably means they wanted the option of bringing her back at some point. Personally, I think that'd be just fine.

Michelle annoyed, and I'm glad they killed off Sherry Palmer. They sucked. I wanted Michelle gone when they were all stuck in that damned poisoned hotel!

As for 'shadow government', there's no way Wayne Palmer is either dead nor a part of some faction aligned with the current badguys. David Palmer took a round in the throat. He definitely isn't coming back...even if they gave him a voice-box a la 'South Park'.

I see Wayne Palmer back this season for sure. He will come back. He was too well liked, and too mysteriously forgotten in the finale of last season's story arch, not to be returning. I wish it was David Palmer, but oh well.

Thank you for the recap. Even after reading it, I still have zero recollection of any of those scenes. Maybe I missed that episode, altogether!

Logan isn't presumed dead. He was mentioned in the first couple episodes that he was given a weak sentence and living on his property.
