Considering how horribly uncomfortable to watch that scene was (even to me and I like violent movies), I wouldn't be surprised if the censors forced removal of blood spraying around to get it to air.

I thought that scene was far more harrowing than the torture stuff that has gone before. The idea of being paralyzed, while someone you like is brutally murdered in front of you while they are begging for help is worse than being personally electrocuted by a desk lamp.

So instead of cougars and amnesia we have a paralyzed First Man?

I had no problem with that. It fit into the context of the show fine unlike the perils of Elisha Cuthbert. It's a plot device I've seen used in other thrillers too and if I recall correctly is a real paralytic agent.

Additionally, she did get shot and though it was a grazing shot, the whole situation was traumatic and probably put her into some sort of shock. It is a miracle she did not panic and start writhing around.

I certainly do agree it was a "miracle". People don't normally let themselves quietly suffocate like that, certainly not a trained FBI agent.

Quote:
And as some of you have forgotten, she was cuffed behind her back. So this nonsense about punching a breathing hole is wrong. Should she have tried to chew her way through the plastic?

That's the first thing I would have tried. Take one big bite out of that plastic and tear through it to get to that air on the other side.

Jack put the plastic on her to cover the body so that it could not be seen from the road. He thought that was good enough as he knew she could breathe. Then it wasn't.

What road?

Finally, breathing or no breathing, it was a silent clock and she was dead. When someone needs to do chest compressions and inject your f-ing heart with adrenaline, you are (were) dead. Sorry to disappoint you people, but she was dead and was revived (brought back to life) by Bill and Chloe.

Of course. The good guys never die on this show any more. Where's Michelle?

Here's some more info I found...from wikipedia..

I'm not sure what the big deal is. I said I was also in disbelief about the midair collision. Someone posted some faulty reasoning claiming it was possible, and I pointed out some of those faults.

And who said they were going to stop watching because of this? Who said they didn't enjoy the show because of this? If people don't like this conversation, find something more interesting to talk about or find another thread.

Also in that 2002 collision you listed, ATC screwed up, the controller was handling two workstations by himself, one of the pilots went against training and the manual and ignored the automated resolution advisory, radar on one of the flights was out, a ground based collision avoidance system was switched off, phone lines were malfunctioning, and it was nighttime so pilots couldn't see one another. With 24, we know "ATC" screwed up. If some of those six other things were happening too, it might have been more believable. But it was a clear, sunny day and the writers didn't bother with any other details.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fun show. But sometimes what writers do in the name of 'plot' results in some 'come on!' moments

That's 3.5 hours to land all the flights, at a time the ATC system is 100% working correctly.

/sigh

Come here looking for some good commentary and thoughts...mostly it is criticism. If you can't suspend your disbelief and you are going "yeah right" all the time, why watch? Oh well...

My biggest prob too. Some two-bit dictator from the middle of nowhere Africa has hooks in multiple parts of the gubmint because of diamonds (?!?!?), and if you watched the previews for next week, possibly in the (chemical?) plant they're going to blow up next week. Uh, yeah.

We've watched every season and so far this is the most implausible premise behind a main threat that I can recall, but I'm sure it will change at some point through the 'day'. Everything else, well, that's just 24. I'm just happy to see Jack is back right now.

I'm pretty sure the previews are fair game after they have been aired.

Officially they are, that's why I asked nicely and didn't say that it was AVS policy that they not be discussed. There was discussion about the previews a few pages back, and the general consensus was that we didn't want to discuss them.

So who do you guys think is the mole in the FBI? I think it's Janice. She's just too good two-shoes.

Also, me thinks there's going to be some sexual tension when Bauerette and Bauer get it on and Moss finds out. Like in Season 4 with Paul (Audrey's Ex)

It is indeed the rule that discussion of a previously aired preview is fair game. For what it's worth, that makes perfect sense to me. I have never, ever, intentionally posted a legitimate spoiler. Nevertheless, it seems to me that spoilerphobia has its limits and complaining about discussing a previously aired preview is beyond them.

I would "prefer" that previews are not discussed because MANY here try to avoid them completely. If you do discuss previews, it would be "nice" if you would give just a little forewarning such as:

IN THE PREVIEW . . . Jack bla bla bla . . .

That way those that don't want to be spoiled by those VERY revealing previews can skip over the information. Just a suggestion.

In the preview I saw a couple of things that are beyond belief and defied any reality.

Why is the CIP device any more unbelievable than sending the nation's nuclear plants into meltdown via remote on day 4?

On 9/11, everyone knew that terrorists had hijacked planes, so grounding additional flights would not cause any additional panic.

Now that a mid-air collision has occurred, they may accelerate the process.

I wouldn't really describe this as a plot hole.

time travel may be beyond belief but as long as they keep the time paradox rules consistent (can't change the past, etc) then i am okay with it.

The ATC system is working 100% correctly currently in 24 as well, except when the bad guys delibertly change the instructions to a single plane. My point here is that the information on how long it took to clear the airspace on 9/11 is readily available, the writers should have at least looked that up.

And most of the planes were landed within the hour.

I didn't say it was a plot hole, I said we already know how long it takes. Assumedly, the writers should also.

For some reason my Fios Motorola guide is/has not correctly scheduled an ep correctly since the first and third hour. I even have it set to record both first run and repeats, but no joy. I have to set every episode to record manually.
24 is the ONLY show I have this problem with. Anyone else ?

Good episode tonight. The shootout in the office building was great.

Dubaku lost the CIP device but he now has the President's husband as a hostage. Strong bargaining chip until Jack saves him.

I love that the CIP device is gone...that is great...

I laugh at Dobaku taking the Metro into Virginia and then showing up in Dupont of the Redline...that was great...

Oh ok, that's not fair, but more seriously, you actually think the SS would lose the President's Husband? Slightly unbelievable...

With only one person directly assigned to protecting him as he goes about his day, and that person being a traitor, I don't see how it's unbelievable at all. What is actually slightly unbelievable to me is the agent being a traitor in the first place. They undergo a Yankee White background check, which is the most extensive type of background check there is.

That's where the conspiracy in the government takes center stage. If this conspiracy reaches deep into the President's administration, then no one can be trusted. Besides, what's another turncoat/traitor/mole in the long history of 24 moledom?

Oh, I know. This is why I don't think too much about what goes on. I like to just sit back and be entertained. And this season has been great for that so far.
