They come up here on occasion, but with less than 235k subs, they are relatively a niche provider.

Out of Georgia - primarily they tend to overbuild. Past experience has shown the local management unaware of changes to FCC law concerning Cable & HD and often find themselves in violation of FCC Rules and Regs.

Thanks for all of the info provided here so far. I was surprised anyone knew or has even heard of Knology. Their overbuilding and apparent FCC violations really is not a surprise to hear.

They don't offer any On-Demand Service (to my knowledge) and the HD line-up is okay, but not near the cable standard these days. Yet somehow they made the decision to add QVC HD which is not in HD, and still 4:3 ratio with a side banner to fill the rest of the screen. Haven't seen QVC HD in many other channel line-ups. That wasted bandwidth would be better served by adding USA HD and/or SciFi HD.

QVC pays the cable company - instead of the other way around.

Just a quick update regarding their On-Demand service, it appears they do offer some channels on-demand now. Nothing exciting, and most of the content is at additional cost.

On the HD channel front, I've been seeing a surge of HD additions to nearly every other cable company except Knology. Anybody seen or heard anything on the blogs or message boards about the possibility of new HD channels coming anytime soon?

I have Knology in Rapid City, South Dakota (they recently acquired PrairieWave, a smaller MSO that covered my area). I've tried calling them in the past to find out if/when new HD channels would be arriving, only to be told that that was privileged information which they couldn't discuss with me. Dunno if that means they're working on arrangements, or if that means that they're sitting on their hands but don't want to come out and *say* that.

Knology to add a dozen HD channels

By Deb Holland, Journal staff | Monday, June 08, 2009

Black Hills Knology customers will now be able to see Food Network's Italian diva Giada De Laurentiis in more detail as she chops and rolls her way to creating "Everyday Italian" recipes.

The Food Network is one of more than a dozen new high-definition channels Knology is adding to its lineup today, Tuesday, June 9.

Knology's Black Hills HD subscribers will see their HD channel numbers nearly double, to a total of 45 HD channels.

Tony Palermo, vice president of marketing for Knology Inc., based in Atlanta, Ga., said the additional channels are a move to remain competitive in the marketplace.

"As more HD TVs are purchased, people want to see more content in HD," he said.

Palermo says savvy customers are demanding more.

"Once you've watched HD, it's hard to go back," he said.

The HD expansion adds 22 more channels in two phases. The 12 HD channels which should be available by the end of today, are Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, Science Channel, The Weather Channel, HGTV, Food Network, ABC Family, Disney Channel, FX, AMC and Speed.

Another 10 HD channels will be added Aug.12. Those channels are History, Biography, CNN, Fox News, E!, Lifetime Movie Network, Hallmark Movie Channel, Fox Sports Rocky Mountain, Versus and the Golf Channel.

Tom Simmons, senior vice president for public policy for Midcontinent Communications said his company, too, is continually adding more HD options for its customers.

"Most of the providers are doing that. We are trying to find ways as more and more HD programming becomes available to make them available to our customers," he said.

In addition to the HD channels, Knology will add VOD (video on demand). Currently, Knology has ay-per-view movies, but the number of movies offered and times available had dwindled.

With VOD more than 6,000 hours of movies and special-interest content will be made available. Most movies will be offered on VOD the same day they are made available on DVD and in video rental outlets.

They will also offer SVOD, or video on demand for those who subscribe to premium channels.

"If you miss a show on HBO, you can go get the content on the VOD channels," Palermo said.

Simmons says Midcontinent has had VOD for the past 18 months.

Knology adds HD channels, video on demand library

By Tim Rausch | Business Editor

Thursday, June 11, 2009 12:37 p.m.

Knology customers in the Augusta area got 11 more high definition channels added to the lineup today.

Knology also announced this morning that it has expanded its library of offerings in the video on demand service.

We have increased content storage capacity, allowing us to provide even more choices now and in the future, said Tony Palermo, vice president of marketing for Knology.

Knology's Augusta high definition subscribers now have 33 HD channels to choose from. Knology added Planet Green, The Weather Channel, HGTV, Food Network, ABC Family, Disney Channel, FX, AMC, FOX Sports South, Speed and the Outdoor Channel.

That's about all there is producing HD, Mr. Palermo said. There are six more channels that Knology will consider adding in the future.

Knology changed its technology for video on demand, Mr. Palermo said. The new technology can handle 6,000 hours of content, up from 2,000 hours, he explained.

So now we're out negotiating with the content aggregators to add more content to the video on demand, he said.

In a response to its chief competitor, Comcast, Mr. Palmero said the company is introducing Digital Gateway, a digital box that allows customers to access the on-screen menu and video on demand service without having to subscribe to all the digital channels in the lineup.

The Digital Gateway is an excellent way for customers to transition to digital television, Mr. Palermo said. It gives them a good sampling of the information and entertainment options that are out there.

Knology, headquartered in West Point, Ga., has been in Augusta for 11 years.

But they have been producing HD for more than a year!!! That's why I dropped them for tv in Nov. '07. I've had D* for TV since and been happy (and not had to pay for each HD/DVR service fee and cheaper STB lease). I still have them for 'net and phone. Phone has been solid but net speeds seem to come and go over time.

Well, Here's my Sig!!!

Hmmm, maybe Knology customers should have a fund raiser and get Mr. Palermo a DirecTV or Dish Network subscription.......

Knology better add Versus HD back by September 19th. I want to watch the Seminoles play BYU in HD. With ABC HD, ESPN HD, and ESPNU HD I thought I'd get all Seminole games in HD.

We (Panama City) are getting the additional channels as I type. The Weather Channel HD is a big plus. I wonder how long we will get the national feed of Local on the 8's?

I still want them to add SciFi and Cartoon Network to their HD Line up. Those are two of my favorite Networks that are sadly missing on their line up.

Does anyone know anything about channel 260 (Florida/Florida State Events)? Is this channel part of ESPN Gameplan? How much would a pay per view game cost on this channel? And is there anyway to find a schedule of this channels events?

I'm also wondering when Fox Sports Florida and Sun Sports HD will be added in Panama City, FL. According to the line-up, featured here, we should already have these on channels 986 & 987.

I still want to see USA HD & SyFy HD added to the line-up down here. Great programming on both, not to mention WWE in high def. Get with it Knology!
