I'm guessing that the whole "wrapping up the story that was introduced in Season 1" is a clever way of saying they will be done with Jones. Way, way too many other plotlines to be resolved in such a short period of time.

Such as??? There really aren't a lot of burning questions for me at this point and I can't think of anything they can't deal with in another 3 hours.

And, of course, Brave New World is probably a nod to the dystopian future we saw last episode.

There was a theory going back that AmberOlivia might be a shapeshifter. I never bought into it, but with all the Bladerunner nods in this episode, you have to wonder if maybe Etta will end up being part machine somehow.

Actually with all the talk about Olivia's death being inevitable and the vague references to things Bell did to her, maybe Olivia died and was brought back in some form by Bell. Either as a cyborg or cloned with shifter tech.

Cool . I wonder what had to happen to make this come together? Did Warner, who'll get their magic-number-for-profitable-syndication 101 episode total, feel capable of giving Fox an exceptionally low price for the final 13 episodes, a price low enough that Fox won't lose money with ratings likely to be even lower than they are now?

I suspect that they plan to go off on a completely new story arc, represented by the last episode, the "Fight the Future" effort to push the Observers out of our near future society. We'll see.

This is great news, indeed.

So Walter, now that you've been picked up for another season, how do you want to celebrate?

While we will probably never see any specifics, I'm sure you're right on the money with that. It's basically the same kind of deal that got Chuck a final 13 on NBC this season. I believe that Fringe was already up for syndication sale at NATPE this past January, but I haven't seen any results from that.

Kind of a trailer went up yesterday for season five:

Mostly a recap reel but it is worth noting that the title treatment is from the future timeline.

Why is it misguided? if the show is headed in that direction with that being their future, then it was not a misguided diversion.

Agreed. The observers true intent was never revealed until last week. Many people assumed they were doing things for good, but whos to say they weren't making sure that everything led correctly until their arrival. As it was stated they are not all "bad" but we have only seen a small sample of the actual force.

I've always thought September was the only one who was cool in the Observers gang... Yet what we saw last week was a result of the current timeline, the one where Olivia and Peter have a daughter named Henrietta. I don't remember if the previous 2036 episode (season2?) mentioned they had a child. It was the first time we learned they ended up together if I'm not mistaken, but a child I don't think so. Besides, as Peter is the only character who doesn't have an alternate version of himself, apparently in this timeline and universes, red Olivia and him never met and never slept together so Henry doesn't exist. So basically Henry is the result of the original timeline and Henrietta is the result of the new timeline. If we go back back to the original timeline, what would become Henrietta? I guess she would disappear. Damn.... I hope Peter has a 'reset' button for his memories, it's gonna be pretty messed up in there! Back to the Observers, maybe their 'plan' was what we saw last week from the beginning, but then how come it wasn't revealed in the first 2036 episode? I think I'm getting confused now

You mean the trip to 2036? You mean arguably the best episode of this season?

FOX issued the "season 5 trailer" about 10 minutes after the renewal news hit the web.

I'm still sticking with last week's title change for the S4 finale as the first clue that this was going to happen.

Glad to now have 16 FRINGE eps to look forward to beginning tonight.

I suggested after his last post if he had a problem with that episode, he really doesn't get what 'Fringe' is all about, or where it's going. Best he drop out now and avoid the next season entirely (since we now know where they're ultimately going) to save himself further anguish. 'Cause if he hated last week's episode, he's really going to hate next season. It's for his own good.

On the bright side - we get another season. Thank the gods.

We don't know this for sure. "Our" Observers could be a rogue faction charged with preventing the invasion from the future. They could still be the good guys.

I agree that the Fringe writers' Dollhouse-like reboot was a good idea. Before that episode my eyes had been glazing over for a good part of the season. Thanks to that last episode, though, I am now looking forward to this season's last three shows and to next season, too.
