Great news. The writers now have a chance to do something with an actual end date. It doesn't mean they will, but it is much easier than being in limbo.

You make a solid point. But hey, we had no Olivia last week & are getting double Olivia this week. All evens out in the end.

As long as she doesn't have "manly parts".

'Cause if he hated last week's episode, he's really going to hate next season. It's for his own good.

On the bright side - we get another season. Thank the gods.

The risks the showrunners take with Fringe are amazing. What other mainstream network show completely changes narrative, characters and throws curveballs like that while staying true to what the show holds dear? The 2036 episode was FANTASTIC.

Here are my thoughts. This season will wrap up the David Robert Donald Bingo Mzypltix Jones storyline. We'll see the impact of that on both (or one combined) universe and the storyline will end. I don't necessarily think the manimals and other skipped plotlines will all be tied up in a neat bow. Just the current Jones/evil-Nina one.

There is no reason that the Observers future we saw last week is the crux of next season. Think about it. The future we saw had a dead Olivia and no Lincoln Lee. It also had some key recurring characters (Etta) that would force increased costs and we all know Fox and WB are trying to stem their losses here. Setting all episodes in the future with the FX and the like to make it believable would also be expensive.

While the evil Observers storyline may be a key part of next season I don't think it is necessarily the core of next season. But tell you what, I would love to see a season with a fully functioning Walter (not Walternate) kicking ass and taking names as a good guy...or at least on the side of the good guys.

Community.

Every season is unpredictable. Every week can be different to the last and no other sitcom on television is as sci-fi and deals with a zombie outbreak one week, an action movie another week, a dungeons and dragons role play followed by an alternate universe episode (nominated for a Hugo) and another set entirely in an imagination powered holodeck.

And it still takes place at an everday community college.

I'm a fan of Community too. It seems all the shows I watch are constantly under the blade of the networks guillotine. Maybe if I start watching Idol it will get canceled.

You haven't seen the rest? This was from a photo shoot done last year or the year before. This was around the same time her "The Pacific" scene was shown on HBO.

To be popular means to water down the content to be as inoffensive to as many viewers as there are people in the country. Sometimes greatness can only be achieved by disregarding what the masses think and taking the risk of dying in obscurity.

Occasionally taking that kind of risk can redefine what something can do and influence every generation that follows. I think Fringe has succeeded admirably there. If it had continued along the lines of the first season the show would have been nothing more than another X-files clone.

Instead from now on, whenever a parallel universe is brought into a storyline it will be compared to Fringe. Probably moreso now than the mirror universes of Trek because Fringe took that leitmotif and expanded the possibilities and updated it for a contemporary audience.

I think the show has earned a position as a television SF benchmark, so it's forever precarious status was not in vain.

The episode of 4/27/12:

I was surprised how emotionally affecting it was to be saying goodbye to Fauxlivia, Walternate, and Asterisk -- even though we still have some versions of the originals to continue on -- and to watch them saying goodbye to their counterparts. It's a tribute to the actors that they have portrayed these characters with such conviction and believability that they really have become separate entities that we care about independently of the other versions.

Very, very well done.

There was a subtlety to Anna Torv's performance that was very well done. AmberOlivia is now effectively BlueOlivia, but she's cognizant of the fact that Fauxlivia is a different person than the one she knew and hated in Season 3--the one that replaced her, and had a baby with Peter.

I was thinking the same thing about Olivia and her interaction with Faux.

It is funny that they mentioned Noah's Ark and that was the last scene of the episode with the evolutionary people (or whatever they are called) with them on a ship.

The question now is... are we really done with the other universe? People crossed over without the bridge, so I have to think that if some emergency arises, it would be done again.

Also... While the episode revolved around how Jones needed the bridge open to do his thing, so closing the bridge stopped that... *I* couldn't help but think that was what Jones wanted... the bridge closed.

Whatever his plan, I think he wanted the bridge closed.

yes. A few episodes ago wasn't Jones trying to get Broyles to plant a device at the bridge to shut it down or do something?

Plus doesn't Jones still have the ability to cross back and forth?

Yep... Jones should still have the old-style crossover device that he was using... and I'm surprised no one on the show reminded us of the "bomb" thing from a couple of episodes back that Jones had wanted Alt-Broyles to use to turn off the bridge.

I was just wondering why Lincoln disappeared and Peter didn't. Did it really just matter what side of the room you were on? I thought they were going to throw a wrench into that. Either way, yes it was sad to see them go.

Also I really didn't expect us not to get any closure on last weeks awesomely amazing episode. I guess that'll happen in the next two weeks?
