I have read this whole thread and love this show. I feel the need to make a few comments on some of your thoughts.

Many of you think Olivia is too "dull" or "boring". I think this is the way her character is supposed to be. She is a dedicated hard working agent who does not have a lot going on outside of her work. She is an emotional wreck with losing her lover (and then seeing him after he is dead). We now know she has major family problems which I think will get worse in the near future.

I think Olivia's dull character is the polar opposite of Walter who is brilliant and lovable. We need this balance on the show. I like the fact that they have an "ordinary" looking person playing the part of Olivia.

Many of you have said something about getting Peter and Olivia together. NO!!! We do not need this show to jump the shark yet. It is evident from the last few episodes that Peter is starting to get fond of Olivia...but Olivia is too buried in her personal hell to realize it. I hope this continues. This relationship has plenty of room to grow and needs several years before something truly happens. As seen with Moonlighting, as soon as the sexual tension is gone, the show will go downhill. Let's keep these two apart for a long time...but tease us with a relationship.

I love the fact that we have several other storylines going on...Peter's backstory, Olivia's dad, the possibility of Walter having to go back to the asylum...etc. The writer's are doing a great job and I can't wait for the next week to see what is going to happen. I do not (as many of you do) try to tear each episode apart. Remember that this is a "SCIENCE FICTION" show...things are supposed to happen that are beyond our comprehension. I do know that the writers slip up occassionally and something is not right...but every show has problems like this. I guess if we could do better, we would be writing for a network instead of writing on a forum.

Hopefully this show will be around for a few years...I can't wait to see where it's going.

not sure if it was posted before but a little bit of trivia for the gamers out there...

Ana Torv was the voice for Nariko in the game for PS3 titled Heavenly Sword.

Don't fret over the negative comments, there seem to be a certain set of posters that make it a point to crash every thread and tell everyone what a stupid show they are watching, it gets old, but there are still plenty of us around that are watching and enjoying the show.

Yes, it's been mentioned a few time, beginning with this post. I found out by pulling down the "Search this Thread" link on the right side of the gray banner just above the first post on the page and looking for "sword".

^^^ Is her video game persona a little livelier than her 'Fringe' character, or is Ana just always being Ana, i.e. a mite snoozeworthy?

umm, her game persona was painted a bit more fierier but ultimately, still no emotional connection, kinda like the show.

I like her being like this though. I don't mind it as much as others

Hardly. If you think that just quality of work is how you get on TV you are being very naive.

In addition there are some on this forum who do write for TV, so don't assume that everyone you are talking to doesn't know what they are doing.

Sorry, did I miss something? Is this show on hiatus now until next year? I noticed it was a re-run last night.

I saw on Youtube a video, appears to be from FOX that shows every episode and exactly where in each episode the bald headed guy has appeared. It rewinds it and show you it again in a close up. Some of them are really hard to detect (like standing against a tree in the background). Some I completely missed. Pretty cool.

Sorry if it was discussed before, didn't have time to search, rushing to get to a meeting.

It sounds like a long time, but if you think about it, next year is in less than a month. (...unless they mean Jan 2010, which would be mind boggling why bother advertising about the new season, this early).

Margot Robbie is THE most exquisite human creature on the face of the planet, in this moment in time.

thefutoncritic.com has it coming back(with new eps) on 1/20/09, but I'm not sure if that is set in stone.

Forgive me, but I have seen every episode and consider myself dedicated to this show and I don't remember seeing Olivia's dad in any episode. Am I sporadically blind and deaf? Have we seen a story regarding her father? Just curious since it's driving me mad with self-mutilation if I happened to miss it.

No father appearance. But there was the episode where she received the birthday card from him. They have a bad history, and the card freaked her out.

And, I thought it was her step-father. I'm going off memory on this, so I might be wrong.

Yeah, you're remembering it correctly. Don't think they ever showed him, but he still sounds pretty creepy.

And they did the episode in such a way that you figure the guy is going to show up sooner or later. He is going to be trouble...

The endless supply of long-lost relatives, old friends in trouble, and pesky old opponents of the lead character who aren't really dead is a long-time staple of television scriptwriting. Any given series can count on plugging in 3 or 4 episodes worth of said staple per season, depending on how big a family they want to give their protagonists. Looks like the 'Fringe' writers got the "missing Dad" plotline inserted early. BTW, do we know anything about Olivia's mother, or are they saving her for next season?

Damn, so long as it is not handled as poorly as "24"s instant family for Bauer. His daughter was bad enough (did feel sorry for the wife), but his dad, brother and nephew/son was just too much :P

Nothing better to do today, so I started re-watching the episodes on Hulu. I got through the first four episodes and wanted to share some of my observations. I probably missed something, but here's what I did see:

The three green dots/one red dot symbol: I noticed them in the first episode when Olivia is in the tank. They are on a canoe during that "dream" sequence. They occur again in the fourth episode on the cap of the guy who has the sound ray gun and interrogates Peter.

The Observer: Didn't catch him in the first episode, but he was in the second episode, standing at the nurses station when Olivia first arrives to the hospital. He was VERY quickly seen in the third episode on the train when she is walking through the train station to intercept the delivery. And of course, the fourth episode brings him to light.

A few of the early questions the show is posing:

1. Who is orchestrating the Pattern? Just a wild guess? I would say William Bell, the head of Massive Dynamic and former partner of Walter, who is conveniently out of the country.

2. What exactly is unique about Peter that Walter keeps checking his health every now and then, and made the comments to Olivia to keep it a secret in the second episode (even though she didn't know what he meant)?

3. It has been alluded to that Broyles chose Olivia. The lady at Massive insinuated the Pattern events may be occurring BECAUSE of Olivia. What's the connection here.

4. So far the only unsolved case: what was the capsule and its function?

I'll post again when I've watched the remaining episodes. Hope this spurs some fun conversation while we wait for new episodes after the fall finale.

Just watched an episode for the first time this evening (The Cure) and though I missed the first 15min or so, I enjoyed it. A friend at work mentioned it to me awhile back, but I always kept forgetting about it. I was impressed with Torv (first time I've see her) She had a certain intensity and voice (if not the stellar looks) that kept me interested. I'll try to catch up and see where it goes for me....

It was my 2nd viewing of this episode, and I enjoyed this one just as much as the 1st time I saw it. It occurred to me that in the category of emotional intensity and drama episode, I nominate this one as the best one out of the season, so far.

For the category of best sci-fi device episode, I think that one with the sonic projectile is the best.

Margot Robbie is THE most exquisite human creature on the face of the planet, in this moment in time.

The best part is that they didn't use it as a plug. Joe Buck didn't tell us to watch Fringe, no overlay on the screen touting its return next week. I thought it was pretty cool.
