Strangely, KPXD-DT in Dallas/Fort Worth remains SD. It was in HD for two or three days around March 18, flipped back to SD, and has been SD since.

I noticed that as of this moment ion tv 56.1 Orlando is doing actual HD @ 1280x720p 16:9 60hz. For the last few weeks they had been doing exotic 4:3 720p HD @ 960x720p 60 hz. Still no dolby 5.1.

Ion has been in 720p in Chicago since yesterday. Right now Mystery Woman is on in 16x9 HD widescreen format. Boston Legal has also been airing in HD. Some sd programming is presented with blue side bars.

So I checked out ION again tonight on WOPX 56.1 Orlando and during Jurasic park 3 they are back to doing that exotic 4:3 720p HD @ 960x720p 60 hz. I guess they must be switching main channel encoder formats remotely from network master control in west palm beach.
Dont know why they couldnt do 16:9 1280x720p for this movie?

Ken, do you have an contacts at WPXD? I can pick it up OTA in Lansing and would be interested in seeing their HD offerings.

It's time to give props to WLNS for the HD crawl generator!!!

Now we need WHTV to go HD and Lansing's CW to get a separate transmitter so it isn't a digital sub.

WPXW-DT Ion 66 (currently DT 43) in Washington DC is now at 720p HD. The satellite station, WWPX-DT Ion 60 (DT 12) in Martinsburg, WV which is received in much of the western DC and Baltimore markets is still SD on 60.1 as of April 16 AM.

So Ion is indeed upgrading to 720 HD. But they are upgrading 1 or 2 stations a week? It has been a month since they were supposed to go HD on March 16 in 20 markets. Not exactly doing this quickly.

No, not really, although I did talk with them briefly when they shut off analog.

They are still broadcasting (4) 480i channels on UHF 31.

The plan is to move the transmitter to Southfield (with WKBD/WTVS) at some point in the near future.

I can only speculate they may be waiting to switch to HD after the move to Southfield.

KKPX San Jose - Ion for the San Francisco Bay Area - has gone HD on 65-1 (RF 41-1). I noticed that "NCIS" was in HD this evening. They are still transmitting the other three channels, Qubo on -2, Ion Life on -3 and Worship on -4.

The James Bond film "OCTOPUSSY" was on last night on ION in HD and looked terrific (other than the constant logo bugs and on-screen promos!).

Yes, I saw that last night. Two good things about it:

1. KPXD in Dallas/Fort Worth finally flipped back into HD after being SD for the past month.

2. It was actually OAR, with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. I was surprised to see OAR on ION, of all the unlikely places.

Viewing WPXD-DT ION Detroit.

Reba in HD. As expected, still with 4 subchannels:

-1 HDTV 720p DD2.0
-2 qubo 480i
-3 Life 480i
-4 Worship 480i

Looks very, very soft.

Reba was always soft even in its initial run on WB/CW. Boston Legal might be a better show to judge the quality given how sharp it was. 8-11EDT tomorrow.

Not to be nitpicky, but should the title of this thread read "ION to go HD, instead of Qubo,ION Life and Ion worship? (Since the subchannels are not HD?)

Apparently KPPX needs to a add a HD Media Server to the mix since Arizona doesn't do DST.
