No doubt, if you liked the first one(which surprisingly I did), I can't imagine you won't like this one also and the previews for Camelot after the show looked pretty good too. Oh, and Jaime Murray seems to be a good addition to any show.

Just watched via Netflix and I thought it was excellent. Great segue into showing the prequel. It had a lot of sex & violence if you like that sort of thing!

Great show last night. The decision by Starz and the series producers to do the prequel, while Andy Whitfield recovers, was brilliant. Now we get to fully see the back stories of all of the major players. Who would have thought that Doctore was married, even while still a slave or that Crixus was lower than dirt when his story began. Seeing Ashur in training before whatever happened to his leg was interesting and you could see what a sleaze he already was. And of course having John Hannah and Lucy Lawless back, with Hannah doing much of the heavy acting lifting was great. I lalso loved the transition from Batiatus' dying eyes to the past. I'm really looking forward to seeing this series unfold over the next five weeks.

Looks like some nasty revenge will be the overall theme for the short season. You can already pick out the characters that will have Xs over their eyeballs.

Nice that they left Andy Whitfield prominently in the credits.

Did they replace the actor that played Crixis?

That was (Manu Bennett) the original Crixis with facial hair.

Wow.

I kept trying to see it, but every time I saw a slight resemblance, I saw something else that made me think he was different.

He also didn't look nearly as stacked - must have been in a constant state of flex before.

I guess it's all part of them trying to tell us the story of how this haggard Gaul grew to be the Champion of Capua.

There were to many unnecessary love scenes, that slowed down the pacing of the show.

Sometimes it's good just to sit back and take a breather.

It's better than filling the dead spots with a cougar stalking somebody through the woods.

... and love is never unnecessary. Especially in this economy when so many merkin-wranglers are out of work.

I just started S:B&S via Netflix BD - have finished the first disk, 4 episodes. Have this first S:GofA episode on the DVR. Should I jump into the new series or should I finish the original series first? Or, does it not much matter who's blood gets gratuitously splashed first?

Probably doesn't matter much if you've already watched some of TOS. If anything, you'd want to wait to watch TOS until this new one ends so it would be chronological.

But the only real "surprises" are pretty minor - and I can only think of two. The significance of Crixis (already pretty clearly foreshadowed) and the situation with the position of Doctore which appears to be handled next week based on the previews.

Other than that, the order probably doesn't really matter.

Finish the original series first, because the new season begins by showing the ending of the original season.

Oops, you're right. I misread Archie's post, thought he said he watched this first episode already.

This ep started similarly to S1. Lots of egregious gore, nudity, character introduction or backstory (on the ones we know), with a topper, a lezscene with Lucy/Jaimie right off the bat (if middleaged women are your thing). Then the story began, a clandestine meeting, surprise, a not well received bargain, a graphic beating...and away we go. As I was watching this, I was struck that this was definitely Starz/Skinemax fare, but I'm confident that the plan is to get us involved in a good story laden with all the trappings...gore, sex, more gore, homoerotica of no particular gender and a topper of more gore. Who can't get with that.

I don't lurk as much as I used to and I NEVER listen. Comes from being old and cynical.

Okay, thanks fellers; I'll collect 'em on the DVR and watch when I finish the original series.

Probably time to start a new thread on the new series, no? I'd offer to do it but it looks like I'm going to be several weeks behind and it's bad form for the thread starter to go AWOL right off the bat.

Title revised.

Someone feel free to start a new thread for the current season. (Spartacus: Gods of the Arena on Starz)

Jaime Murray is 33. Lucy Lawless is 42. Are men also considered middle-aged at 33 and 42?

Jaime looks older...maybe it's the makeup, maybe it's genetics. LL certainly is in early middle age and looks it. BTW, it was a joke, also, BTW, I'm firmly in the senior category, so both look great to me .

Sadly enough..It's typical male mentally and the pedo in them to think 33 /42 is old. They wish they could look as good as these so called middle-aged women .

Talking like 13 year old boys over soft porn....I can only imagine what these guys look like by reading some of the post in this thread.

They seem to forget what type of forum they are posting on.

Why so agitated? There may be some members who have not yet seen the original series and may want to wander in here to read & comment. Me, for instance. People occasionally post pieces to threads about series that have been gone for a year or two. Somebody posts something in the BSG thread every few months and that generates a brief flurry of activity. Then it dies down until the next item of interest pops up. This is the natural order of things, much like the sun rising in the east and chocolate tasting good.

The new series has its own thread with its own title. You never have to come here again. Leave it for us dummies (or is it dumbies? dumees? If I wasn't so dumb, I'd know that).
