Well, the writers succeeded in driving my wife away from enjoying the show with The Dude Ranch Episode. She's been fuming at the dumb plots for a while now, and this one jumped the shark for her. Can't say I blame her.

(I theorize that the writers are fresh out of high school. The actors deserve better.)

Someone was on top of things - they made sure Kate had her bullet wound scar in the final scene.

Love the show but I couldn't make it through this episode. Enough with the gimmicks. Let's get back to solving crimes (with humor).

Except that, if you'll recall, after Kate got shot the surgeons had to crack her whole chest open to massage her heart. She should have a huge vertical scar, not just an itty bitty little round one where the bullet went in.

Fewer opportunities for gratuitous cleavage shots with something like that, of course.

I loved the dude ranch episode. It showed off both Fillion and Katic at their charming best. Fillion's scene in the bar with the dude ranch owner who turned out to be the killer was a hoot. His schtick as a funny but frightened fellow reminded me of some of what Bob Hope did in his heyday. There is not a serious bone in the show's body but that's how I like it.

Yah I wasn't bothered by the dude ranch. It's the kind of corniness that Castle (the character) thrives in. It works. It's the more fantastical invisible suits and teleporting relics that surprise me...

Something was wonky in my area - Dancing with the Stars did not end until ~15 minutes past the hour, so my DVR cut off the last 15 minutes of Castle. I'll have to wait until it's available on ABC.com

It has come to my attention that the original title for episode 710 (airing Dec 8th) was "Have Yourself a Mobster Little Christmas."

The current title is "Bad Santa."

As a side note, so far this season the episodes have been airing in order.

Additional comment: Digging into this episode further... something tells me that the "Bad Santa" title is going to be more fitting than the original. Something is not going to go right for the mid-season cliffhanger.

I'd like to thank the costume designer for making Kate look even better than she usually does. If you are going to go fantasy western ... that's the way to do it.

Stana Katic couldn't be made to look anything but scrumptious if they dressed her in sackcloth and ashes.

News coverage, as someone already noted... I didn't try to watch until the end of the week... and by then I was able to watch it on ABC.com via my Dish provider authorization. I don't know if that means I watched it earlier than someone without cable/satellite could have watched it online.

I also had the same thing happen with NCIS: LA from Monday. I haven't checked my FOX recordings from Monday night yet (last Monday) so I don't know if FOX OTA carried the coverage. Sometimes they don't I've noticed.

Yeah baby!  It's Halloween!

Last nights episode had a great ending with Kate moving on from her old life and into the new one, but first had to leave something behind, her initials.

Come on, you know it's only temporary. It will be an issue for 3, 4 or 5 episodes then all will return to normal. Or, Beckett joins him and they ride off to new adventures around the world.

I agree. Paul Ben Victor as the Godfather-like mob boss was terrific, as he always is. I also enjoyed his stoney-faced henchmen.
