It's hard to keep a show fresh that long without juggling the cast around and that comes with the risk of losing fans who leave when a popular character does.
But!!! I really think they missed the boat by getting these 2 together. Keeping Castle as a "Playboy Novelist" and Kate as a "Single Female Cop" allows them to bring in random, regular, and various eye candy for viewers of both sexes, while still allowing them to play with the sexual tension between the 2. I don't see the upside to getting them together.

Maybe... but after 5-6 years of that flirting, it gets old too... That's the problem with the flirting dynamic on TV... you can't break them up because that gives no reason to keep them both on the show in close proximity... and you can put them together because it kills all the stuff that worked for the first several years. It's one of those time-delay plot explosions that you know is one day going to kill your show when you start out with it. You can cheat and tweak and extend it for a while, but eventually you have to pay it off and then everything goes cold.

A show can succeed with married lead actors, even on NBC:

"Like the other two original shows in the NBC Mystery Movie, McMillan & Wife was an immediate hit. After its network run on NBC, it appeared regularly as part of The CBS Late Movie and later, in the form of syndicated reruns on local and cable television in the United States." -- Wikipedia

I only watched a few of the first season episodes. I really liked the leads, but I could not buy into the Police Commissioner and his wife being so involved in the case of the week. IOW, a disbelief I couldn't suspend.

Now, they just need to get Becket sorted out.

I swear, if they show her pulling that file out from under the other stuff on her desk one more time.....

......seriously, doesn't she have a file cabinet for her files on dangerous and covert investigations that cause her to leave her spouse? She's gotta leave them on her desk so she can gaze at them periodically?

The effortless, purely platonic chemistry between Castle and Nose makes me wonder why we never see anything close to that with Beckett? Maybe it's Katic? She plays the all-business detective well, but doesn't seem very good at projecting any personal warmth or humor or vulnerability...

Plus, Castle punching her in the nose shows he likes her....

...that worked great for me in the second grade, though I usually stuck with punching arms, not faces...

^Nose may have feeling for castle, but she must know he and becket are still madly in love, also I see cadtle being nice not wanting to get into a relationship with nose.

Finally caught up. They still got it. Fun bunch of episodes.

Well it's November sweeps so I hope they wrap up this stupid separation thing in the next 3 episodes. The last episode was one of the better in a long time, hope they keep it up.

For 5 seasons we watched as the played the game then they got together and were trying to hide it, more fun there. The season they were married was just not as much fun so now they are split and the fun and comedy is coming back together with him working up all the scams trying to get her back and she is going to be sweating it out like he was in the first season. With Miss Castle playing side kick also adds more comedy possibilities. Makes for fun TV and good comedy.

Just when it was starting to get better the writers really laid an egg here. Complete waste of having Adam Baldwin back IMO

Agree. The whole "separated" thing just seems dumb to me. I still watch the show, but I really don't look forward to it as much as I used to. I'm just not feeling it this season.

What and when did this start? This season or last?
Yes, it is silly and surely has run it's course.

Abundant OTA television is what makes this country different from all others. Lets keep it this way. If you like Wi-Fi so much, OTA fits right in. After all, it is wireless.

The frequent insertions of the British P.I. or bounty hunter or whatever she is, into this seasons episodes is a bit eyeroll-inducing.

WHAT, naked punishment! When did they turn into Anastasia Steel and Christian Gray. Just what the show has always been, adult humor.

When they say "winter finale," they meant it. Just be thankful that they aren't waiting until mid-March, for the end of winter (calendar style).

I wonder if there will be a next season. If not I can see the seeds of the ending. After the anniversary evening, Kate discovers she's pregnant, they solve the long arc case and ride off into the sunset with the baby Castle has been talking about for years.
