I haven't seen it yet, but I have seen clips which do sort of give away certain things.

That's why I knew the first spoiler, but I stopped before I read something I didn't know about.

Same here.

Hmmm....how do spoilers work on a show that comes out on DVD before it airs? Are we allowed discussing it here?

I guess we'll all have to use spoiler tags for the next 6 months....

Exactly how did "we" know it? I sure as hell didn't derive all of that from the two minute trailers at Sci Fi or from interviews.

2. a non spoiler thread.

I'm fairly new to Netflix. Do they ever ship out new releases before the official release date?

They usually start shipping out new releases on Monday. So, if you usually get your Netflix releases in one day, you will get it the day of release.

If I'm trying to get a DVD/BD on the day of release, I will send a movie back on Friday. It gets there Saturday and sits until Monday morning (they don't ship on Saturday). They will then send the disc at the top of my queue (most of the time). So, I have the new release I want at the top.

for some ungodly reason there is no blu-ray release of this & its ironic since on the dvd extras they advertise the Galactica Complete Series Set coming to blu-ray July 28 (they dont say July 28 but thats the unofficial rumour)....its $244 on Amazon now (could drop more) = Best Buy price match.

Thanks.

I sent back a couple movies this morning, so I probably won't get it until Wednesday but I could always hope. As close as the distribution center is, I could have just dropped it over there.

I didn't know amazon had already listed the complete set. $244. $199 at release maybe? $50 per season seems reasonable for Blu. $149 for the DVDs?

I'd be interested in seeing what the sales are like for Caprica. I can't for the life of me figure out why someone would buy the pilot now knowing there would be a season 1 set which includes it.

Just watched Caprica...pretty decent...not what I was expecting at all...love the tie-ins with BSG....I'd like to see where it goes...

So how does it work with the Cylons? The Capricans created them but they've been around for thousands of years on their home world? I'm kind of confused by the timeline. Also, when they said 58 years before the Fall of Caprica...is that the start of BSG? Or is that the start of the first Cylon wars?

I'm guessing the T&A will not be shown on SciFi...too bad, that was a nice little surprise

They were around for thousands of years ago on the thirteenth colony, before the Capricans independently recreated them 58 years before the start of BSG, with no knowledge of their prior existence on the 13th colony. (Remember, "All this has happened before..."). I believe that the 13th colony started out as humans, who were wiped out by their Cylon rebellion. Since the start of BSG was 40 years since the end of the Cylon War, which lasted 12 years, I assume that it was 6 years between creation of the first "modern" Cylon and their rebellion.

I thought that it was interesting that the monotheistic doctrine of the Cylons stemmed from a human movement, held by the very first Cylon (or the electronic construct of Zoë's personality running within it).

I agree--it's unlikely that there will be any nudity shown on SciFi, yet another reason for fans to see the DVD . I wasn't too surprised, since it was hinted at in the sneak peek trailers. (It kind of reminds me of the pilot of Stargate: SG1 on Showtime, which had some pretty nice moments of full frontal female nudity. No future episode of SG1 featured nudity, even in the first five season on Showtime, before Sci Fi bought it).

Interesting...I just figured they would have called them different names

I guess its a concept you have to forgive...or at least until they can somehow tie it in...

I don't know that they actually need to tie it in, nor does it need to be forgiven. The "All this has happened before, all this will happen again" thing was a passage from their scriptures, being a statement by the prophet Pythia (the name of one of the preistess of the Greek temple of Delphi, who delivered prophecies of the Oracle of Apollo, from our own ancient history). Of course, no one knew to what that passage referred. Inasmuch

The creation of Cylons by man, their rebellion and destruction of mankind happened before on the 13th colony, and Caprica is the story of it happening again. Inasmuch as we're supposed to be the descendents of Cylons and humans of BSG, perhaps it will happen yet again to us .

I doubt it will get as low as $199 since the MSRP is $350. To get to $199 that would be around a 43% discount, has amazon ever discount a new release that much?

Untagged spoilers deleted.

Please start a thread in the DVD forum if you are discussing the DVD release. This thread is for the Sci Fi broadcast, and until it airs, all discussion about the pilot would be a spoiler. This thread will end up all tagged if the DVD is discussed here (and far too difficult to moderate).

Am I the only one who thinks Alessandra Torresani looks better without all the airbrushing? Plus Weeds just did a similar poster for season 5.

I hate the fact that they're breaking up the show as well, but I'm still looking forward to it.

Caprica Steams Ahead

'Battlestar Galactica' Prequel's Pilot Gets Heavy Digital Exposure

by R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 12/21/2009 2:00:00 AM

Syfy hopes to build momentum for its highly anticipated series Caprica by allowing Web sites to stream the two-hour series pilot in its entirety.

Syfy is providing sci-fi oriented Web sites with video embed codes to offer a stream of the program, network president David Howe said during a media call last week. The pilot is also available at Syfy.com.

Syfy last summer distributed the same pilot of Caprica a prequel to the network's popular Battlestar Galactica series via home video and iTunes, although it did not disclose sales figures for either distribution platform.

The pilot will be available to anyone who wants to watch it, Howe said. We're very excited about it, because it speaks to what we want to do with Caprica the anticipation and buzz for the show has been like no other, and I think the more people we can encourage to watch that pilot and then come in for the series, the better we will be.

Syfy will air a slightly different version of Caprica when the series premieres on the network Jan. 22. We've reshot a few scenes, we've added additional elements and upgraded the special effects from the original pilot, Howe said.

The network will have to manage ratings expectations for the pilot's premiere on Syfy, said Howe, due to its alternative media exposure, although he would not predict how well Caprica would perform. He did say it should serve well as an introduction to the series.

It's the risk that we took when we released it on DVD first and it's the risk we're taking now releasing it to be streamed, he said. I think in this climate, with the audience we have, it's absolutely the right thing to do. We have an early adapter, techno-savvy audience that isn't going to always watch linear, live TV in the same way that other network audiences do.

The decision to stream the Caprica pilot over the Web comes as the linear channel finishes 2009 with strong ratings. The network, which rebranded as Syfy from Sci Fi Channel this past July, is on track for its best fourth quarter in the ratings in its 17-year history among total viewers, as well as in such key demos as adults 18 to 34 and adults 18 to 49. Its performance was paced by strong showings from reality series Destination Truth, Ghost Hunters and Scare Tactics, according to the network.

Through Dec. 14, NBC Universal-owned Syfy has averaged 1.2 million viewers in 2009, which is flat from the same period in 2008.

In other Syfy news, the network renewed its freshman series Stargate Universe and sophomore series Sanctuary, both of which air during the network's Friday-night block of original series.

Stargate Universe is the third series in the Stargate franchise to run on Syfy. Sanctuary stars former Stargate SG-1 actress Amanda Tapping and, like, SGU, is filmed in British Columbia.

The new seasons will premiere next fall, Syfy said.
