And the fact that Duey mentioned that Chickey was moved to another command/post explains where she went.

How bout Sal? Wonder if they'll touch on his whereabouts...and the litany of ex-partners that Lydia had.

I'm wondering if Lydia and her new partner are going to take their relationship off the clock next...?

Yeah, the line about the moped had me howling.

I'm not loving Lucy Liu's character yet. She doesn't look like a cop to me at all. And the interaction between John and her seems really flat. Not like what we saw with Ben.

And I wonder why more isn't made of John's sexuality. I appreciate that it's not being exploited, but it's kinda like the elephant in the room. As honest as this show is, I'd think they would want to address it somehow.

I'm watching this show, but the writing only gets a "B". Always something that is over the top or impossible to believe, or just doesn't make sense. The dialog isn't particularly clever. Could be better.

I thought "Grambo" and Dewey's porn store back and forth with Cooper and Tang was hysterical dare I say Clever?

Add to that the dialogue between Cooper and Tang with the naked guy running on the street and them telling him to take the Highway because it's not illegal to run on there.

I think there's lots of better than "B" dialogue on Southland.

I think most regular posters to this thread would agree with you that the writing in Southland, especially the dialog, rates more than a B. Count me in their number, by the way.

Dewey says something every week that makes me howl and I think the relationship between the wounded warriors, Cooper and Tang is going to get more and more interesting. Both have had their problems but neither of them is about to give up, either.

I strongly disagree. The show didn't last on NBC because the writing is too clever. It isn't filled with enough cliches for a major network. There are over the top moments but never does the dialog make me roll my eyes like most shows do.

Didn't mean to upset y'all. A "B" is pretty good, actually. Just not up there with Justified, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, and a few others - in my opinion.

Think nothing of it. I suggest that most of us around here believe that differences of opinion are the mother's milk of lively discussions. I agree with you, by the way, that few if any shows on television these days can match the quality of the writing on Breaking Bad. I think most would agree that there is no better writing on any show.

Agreed. But at the same time, like you said, I'd still give Southland an A...definitely not B-level. Southland rings truer than any cop show I've ever seen, from the dialogue to the situations. I know people say that what they see on the show seems far-fetched, but I can tell you that just from watching the local news/reading the local paper, that a lot of crazy ish happens in LA. I've seen a lot of crazy ish happen in LA. lol It may not all happen in one day like on this show, but it happens. That naked guy running down the freeway? That happened last year.

Sure they may embellish a bit, but really, it's only just a bit.

Edit: And if you ever hear local radio shows etc. where they have the actors on and have people call in, a lot of times it's cops (LAPD/LBPD/whatever) calling in to say how much they appreciate the show's realism.

I loved the scene with the naked jogger and laughed out loud when Tang directed the naked guy to run on the freeway, thereby relieving the LAPD of the problem and making it a highway patrol matter. It's little touches like this that make Southland so much fun.

The show didn't last on NBC because they needed 10pm vacated for Leno and that's too gritty to run any earlier in the evening. That said, it might have still been pulled for the reasons you cite. It's definitely not a mainstream show. But a lot of people said that about "NYPD Blue" and it ran forever.

I still think NBC wishes they had this one back. And with the bigger budget that comes with being on the network, who knows how much better the show could have been (not that it's not great now). Or it could have been worse if they tinkered with it as networks tend to do.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

I think the low budget nature of the show lends it a certain urgency - they feel it on set and we feel it at home.

Eve: I thought I was through getting involved with men who were trouble. Falling in love on a look. I can't look at you.

Mickey: You have perfection about you. Your eyes have music. Your heart's the best part of your body. And when you move, every man, woman and child is forced to watch.

Good episode tonight.

I thought something bad was going to happen when Sammy left DayDay a lone cuffed around the pole.

John and Jessica rolling together is nice. I was surprised both of them let that guy punch the dude.

It's a wonder they can pack so many fleshed out encounters in 42-44 minutes. Southland definitely does not drag!

Good episode tonight.

The camera did a good job with Lydia's facial expressions. She sure was getting feedback about having kids and parenthood. I wonder who the father is.

Sammy and the dog. It 'sort of' paid off at the end. The family was so happy that the dog was saved and had surgery. I'm sure that made Sammy happy, then again the bill

Officer Tang and Cooper went through a lot of work to get the homeless man help. It was nice of them, and shows some side of Officer Tang.

I'm still waiting for the full backstory on Tang. I don't know why but I almost expect to hear that she's a lesbian. They haven't had Cooper ask her if she's married or has a man have they?

And as for Lydia---I'm thinking it's someone she's been on screen with in the past. Could it be a former partner? Could it be that guy who she was seeing in the first season who broke up with her? And (Rose from Lost) her mom is back. Is that the first time we've seen her since she went to Europe (Paris?) a season or 2 ago?

And I still love Dewey. The way he told the story about shooting the kids thumb off...and then the card/toy dog on the roof of the patrol car...priceless....

I seem to remember him asking about her personal life and she shut him off.

I recall that, too. I also recall when Tang later asked Cooper a personal question of her own and Cooper reminded her of what she had told him.

Some of those pranks were harsh. The pregnant one especially

Good episode, I still like all the fast-pace action. Many different sub-stories to each episode.

Sad about the gay teenager who killed himself. Racism and Bigotry is nasty stuff. I think Tang overheard Cooper talk about being gay?

Lydia still hasn't come clean to her partner, I would think she needs to open up to him. They're partners after all.

Still one of my favs but last nights episode was very predicitable:

The pregnant waitress gag
Copper revealing he was gay to teen jumper

They did get me with the guy in hospital, grab his hand thing, all though it was not very funny.

It'd be nice if that camera guy gets it, somehow. At the very least, the camera guys on COPS would have helped.
