That was a pretty intense ending, as soon as I saw the neighbor with the gun I knew it wasn't going to end well. Looks to me like Cooper was done and decided to just end it all as he knew better than to stand up with a pistol in his hand.

Great end scene with Ben and Sammy as well. Surprised Sammy actually figured it out, boy was he pissed.

Lydia and her ex-partner seem to be romantically involved. Even he said something like "What's the point of this?" while they were walking a long the beach.

@Ph8te: I agree, I knew what would happen as soon as the cops came through. In all fairness, Cooper was going crazy. He was striking the defenseless guy with the pistol over and over. This was also the first time we even actually saw the neighbors. We heard about them and their generator but never actually saw them. That storyline took a sharp turn eek.gif

I hope Southland will be renewed. Such a great program with great actors and characters. If it's not renewed, they ended things pretty well. They make us believe A) Cooper is dead B) Lydia finally found love and somebody to help take care of her baby C) Ben and Sammy finally splitting ways.

I read this on another forum and it makes sense. Totally agree.

I've been watching this amazing show since it premiered on NBC years ago. It could have never been this gritty and realistic if it had stayed with the Peacock. If it's gone, last night's episode was a fitting ending, and I will miss it.

I guess for Officer Cooper, his last chance to remain sane was to attempt to have a baby with his ex-wife. The way she shot him down pushed him over the edge. And it was interesting how they correlated that storyline to his old FTO and his attempt to take his life.

And Lucero's wife thinking that her husband was the one who was gay seemed to shake Cooper up as well.

Lydia wanted more than the job was going to be able to give her. Her son's seizure seemed to bring that point forward.

Fantastic and fitting ending. IMHO the series is over. I think I read somewhere that most all of the main characters had inked deals to new pilots. The show went out the way it should have. Blood and guts....and immersed in deep character development!

Like you, I thought that this week's season finale would also be a fitting series finale. I hope Southland comes back, though. The final scene depicting Cooper's attempted suicide by cop was hard to take. I too have watched the show from the beginning and will hate to see it go.

I, for one, am grateful for the run the series has had on TNT. Despite NBC and Leno which tried to kill this wonderful show off. If this was the last episode it sure went out with a bang.

Yeah, me too. My grandson, who lives in Tulsa and doesn't have cable, loves Southland as much as I do and asked me to save all of this season's episodes for him so he can watch them when he comes down to OKC.

I'm okay with that, the last episode was obviously written as a possible "end of watch" finale should the show not be picked up and it worked very well in my opinion. You don't want to over-cook something as good as Southland was, which is something TV nets just can't seem to stop themselves from doing, and of course the quality takes a big hit in the process.

wow! That's a shame, it was such a good show. I'll be one for the books that's for sure.

Keenan,
I agree. You don't want to over-cook a fantastic show.

Thanks for the update, King Clancy.

It is.

There isn't another show on TNT that I enjoy. Southland was the only thing.

Hey, at least we got a few more seasons after silly NBC cancelled it tongue.gif

I am bummed, one of my favorite shows. I was kinda expecting it the way the last episode entered.
