Noticed today that the older seasons of King of Queens on TBS are no longer stretch-o-vision. The newer seasons (7-8-9) have been in HD, but the older seasons were always stretched. The episode I saw today was from season 4. Looks like they must have got a hold of the original masters.

I've noticed that King of Queens is also being shown locally in HD. Just earlier, I saw an episode from 1999 (Net Prophets) in HD.

Local station: WWOR

A couple of notes:

- The King Of Queens was in HD in its first run on CBS, so HD versions have always been available.
- It has been in HD syndication for years in Canada.

Good for Canada. HD versions have hardly "always been available" in the US. No station where I live (Pittsburgh area) has been broadcasting older KoQ in HD. Our CW station does 4:3 SD and TBS has been stretching. The only earlier way to see these in HD in the US would have been to download them (which I haven't even seen - they are all American DVD rips which are 4:3 SD).

I live in Wichita, Kansas and the KoQ is being shown in HD on our CW affiliate (KSCW). It started back in March. Another syndicated show being shown in HD is Boston Legal, and that is on our CBS affiliate (KWCH) on the weekends. And from what I heard, Bones, The Office, Grey's Anatomy (all will start syndication this fall) will be shown in HD as well.

You are missing the point. If the first run was HD, then HD versions are always available, as shown by the Canadian HD airings.

The fact they haven't aired in US syndication in HD up to now doesn't mean they weren't available. It means there wasn't enough local interest.

They have always been available for a station to air them since yes, they have always existed. But they have not always been available for everybody to watch them since not all US stations are airing them, which is the more important fact.

Again, it's about local interest. The US syndicated run of KoQ has been offered in HD since its most recent season began last fall. Prior to that, there weren't enough local stations with the ability to do a syndicated HD program to make it worthwhile.
