What's more annoying? The show being in standard definition widescreen, or that so many people will think its in HD just because it's widescreen.

PQ looks worse than awful.

WNBC-DT NYC FiOS NYC.

Some cams have heavy edge enhancement, others look ok.
Are they using different cameras because they don't seem to mach in PQ very well.

What's worse is my local NBC affiliate has their local HD bug in the corner from the start, even on commercials. It's a GIANT number 23 with the peacock above it.

forgot to mention I'm watching KVEO-DT on E*

Yeah and NBC.com used to say that Last Call With Carson Daily was HD.
This show has no HD video.

Dish Network's guide doesn't have it listed as HD, neither does TiVo.

Just look at it and you can clearly see it's not.

Jeff Zucker is anti HDTV, if he's trying to pass this junk off as HDTV, he's badly mistaken.

Definitely SD. I prefer it to 4:3 as long as they are honest about it. Not that I plan to watch this anyway.

Why so much anti-16:9 SD? I think it's great. Finally someone is following the lead of FOX and not just using 4:3 SD. I hope this is a start with the reality crap coming over the summer.

I don't really care about people thinking 16:9 SD is real HD; at least it is proper aspect ratio. I'm more concerned about those who think S T R E T C H E D 4:3 is "real HD"!

It's not being anti 16:9 SD. It's being anti bad quality 16:9 SD.
FOX has done 16:9 SD reality shows with much better video quality.

I agree there. SD or HD, there is no excuse for poor quality picture.

Is the US "I'm a Celebrity" coming from Puerto Rico? (I had heard that a few Brit production crew I know were heading out there for a series - which would make sense)

The UK series has historically come from Australia, and the Aussie set is also used by other countries who have bought the format, like Germany. (A bit like Wipeout/Total Wipeout coming from Argentina)

The UK series is shot 576/50i 16:9 SD - and uses a mix of full-quality studio cameras, and smaller remote cameras - a bit like Big Brother. That probably explains the quality differences some people are seeing.

If they are shooting in Puerto Rico then they are probably running 480/60i?

The show rates pretty well in the UK (George Takei and Martina Navratilova were the "imported celebs" for the last UK run) - and shares the same hosts as "Britain's Got Talent" (they're a pair of blokes who have worked together for years since they were child actors - Ant and Dec)

Darn, I missed it. I'm not really interested in this type of programming, though.
I'll catch the next episode tonight. (Isn't it on like 5 days a week for 2 weeks or what not.)

Edit: If it's not in HD, that sucks.

I watched for about 15 minutes, then turned it off. Funny to see them find their camps and realize this is the real deal. And they have a palace compared to some TV survival shows. Hammocks and a toilet? Come on.

I say move thread to the non-HD section...

This show is both eyesore in TV and on the forum.. IMHO

Glad I am not the only one. First time watching this show but as soon as I saw the EXTREME EE I about crapped myself. I would rather watch real SD, rather than 16x9 SD that is just crappily done. Looked like complete garbage.

Apologies.

I have a mental block on those two place names - for no logical reasons.

I meant to ask if it was shot in Costa Rica. It apparently is.

AIUI the production crew is mainly British - though I don't know about the technical teams.

EE is not a particular widespread trait of British 16:9 SD production.

They are using the word Celebrity very loosely.

The only ones that can remotely be called a celebrity are Lou Diamond Phillips and Stephen Baldwin.

Well, he!! - these types of shows have always used the word "reality" pretty loosely, too.

Not wishing to be a killjoy - but AIUI the discussion guidelines for the HDTV Programming forum include discussion of 16:9 SD upconverted content, just as they included 16:9 480p Fox Widescreen (which was not 480p production but de-interlaced 480i 16:9 SD) prior to the switch to 720p.

Interesting that the UK media press is reporting that the US IAACGMOOH rated pretty well. Also interesting that Mylene Klass is presenting. (She's a Brit who was a member of the first UK Reality TV show pop band, formed by the show Popstars - which pre-dates the Pop Idol/Idol franchise. She's a very talented classical pianist, and also a pretty good presenter.)

I agree ... a much better title would be "I Either Used To Be A C-List Celebrity Or I Never Was A Celebrity At All So Why Would You Care If I Ever Get Out Of Here Or Not?" ... but I guess that would be a bit too long - but a LOT more accurate.

As a Brit I'm sure you know what behaving like a total pratt means. Well, there's a young married couple on our IACGMEOOH that are behaving like total pratts and their surname is....Pratt. They feel they are way too rich and way too famous to be doing the show and mixing with the others. They apparently thought they would be staying in a hotel next to the jungle!

That type of behaviour kind of makes the show.

It's incredibly popular in the UK and has run for multiple series. (I believe ABC originally ran a series in the US after the UK's first series or two were popular?)

I'm not a regular viewer, but what is often interesting is how people behave in ways you wouldn't initially think - it is very good at subverting the general opinions held about people. Often those that have the most glamorous appearances outside the jungle have no issues at all with getting stuck in to challenges and don't care about their appearance. You also see the most unlikely friendships develop.

The only issues quite a few people have with it is the use of live animals in some of the challenges - and whether they should be used in this way.
