Saw a preview for this new comedy series during Entourage reruns. Looks interesting. http://www.hbo.com/hung/

MIXED REVIEWS FOR "HUNG" ACROSS THE BOARD:

HBO's meandering 'Hung' fails to satisfy in so many ways (USA Today): http://www.usatoday.com/life/televis...hung-hbo_N.htm.

'Hung' is like 'American Beauty' on TV (Newsday): http://www.newsday.com/entertainment...tory?track=rss.

HBO's 'Hung' sinks low: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09176/979721-67.stm.

HBO's 'Hung' is more than a 'Californication' clone, with more than sex to the story (NY Daily News): http://www.nydailynews.com/entertain...xzz0JVNmEZxD&D

Gifted and Talented, in a Grown-Up Way (New York Times): http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/26/ar...er=rss&emc=rss.

“Hung” remains, despite all efforts to inform it with larger meaning, trapped in being all about just what that title says. (Wall Street Journal): http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...110699822.html.

HBO's funny 'Hung' (San Francisco Chronicle): http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...DDVP18DF2T.DTL.

*************

I think I'll have to check "Hung" out because usually series that get mixed reviews are the one's I end up enjoying most. Since there's no consensus in these (and many other) reviews about whether "Hung" sucks or not it's up to 'mua' to make up my mind.

The first episode bored me. However, HBO dramas always started slowly then built up. ("John from Cincinnati" and "Carnival" being extreme examples.)

I liked the show, but had problems with the casting choice for the teenaged children. Genetics wise, it doesn't jive that 2 lean attractive people would have kids that looked nothing like them. I don't believe everyone has to be skinny and beautiful, but it just looked out of place.

I liked the show, but it hit a little close to home living in MI.

As for the kids, unfortunately they are more the norm than the exception. I see too many lard ass kids walking around, growing up none of us where fat - and many still aren't.

I may want to watch it again. I meant to do the Google queries that he tried, but I forgot to write them down. I thought it was hilarious when he added "straight male" after seeing the results of his first try. :-)

All the funny parts were shown in the preview, hence I didn't really laugh much when it aired. I see potential so I will give it some more time.

Funny because there was no female nudity in the pilot episode. Just about every, if not every single episode of Californication has female nudity. Not that I was dying to see the rack on the poet lady, but since it is HBO and a show about a gigalo, it stuck out to me that they made sure we didn't see "the goods." Hopefully it's just her who don't see bare in terms of people our hero sleeps with.

As to the show, it's worth checking out. I enjoyed it, but it needs to get funnier for me to get hooked.

I watched the Hung pilot this evening and was underwhelmed. I plan to stick with the series for awhile, though, because of its talented cast. Both Jane Adams and Anne Heche are talented actresses, so I want to give the show some time to achieve critical mass, although it certainly hasn't done so yet.

It's HBO... Thought the show was slow but will give it 3 or 4 more episodes before I make up my mind.

I finally watched the pilot last night. Not bad, I had no real expectations. We'll see what happens as things progress.

No time for this one I'm afraid. With so much good stuff on the tube these days, I only have room for one "fun adventures in prostitution" show and Showtime's 'Secret Diary of a Call Girl' starring the fetching Billie Piper currently occupies that slot (she was previously one of Dr. Who's recent sidekicks and a singer of some note across the pond). Not that I can't relate to the premise, of course...

Yes, when Entourage starts again I may have to "trim". And for me, I thought 'Secret Diary of a Call Girl' was quite bad and only watched the first few episodes of the first season. To each their own.

Too bad; by not sticking around you missed Billie finally "getting her kit off" toward the end of S-1. Thousands of frustrated Dr. Who fan-boys gasped (and probably grasped).

She "does" nothing for me. That may have been part of it and I'm not a Dr. Who fan. No big deal. Plus I didn't think the writing or acting was all that great.

Back to Hung... Yesterday I just realized the lead was Todd Parker in Boogie Nights.

I would like to see this show in 1 hour slots.

Make way for a new TV genre - 30-minute shows that evoke present-day despair while maintaining a sense of humor. Just don’t call them sitcoms
By Matthew Gilbert, Boston Globe - July 12th, 2009
Grimedies are being manufactured primarily in the Showtime factory, with “Nurse Jackie’’ as well as “Californication,’’ “United States of Tara,’’ “Secret Diary of a Call Girl,’’ and “Weeds.’’ Recently, though, HBO joined in, with “Hung.’’ These are all half-hour shows, but they share a piquant, realistic spirit that isn’t nearly sitcommy.

I watched it, but don't remember. They are repeating the pilot on 7/23 and it's 45 minutes, the next two eps(#2 and #3) are both listed as 30 minutes.

Yes tonight was MUCH better than the pilot. Had a very "Weeds' feel about it and this is a good thing. The early Weeds was fun, and somewhat light hearted, not like the last few seasons.

It's nice to see some local stuff and not the standard California backgrounds.

I'm having mixed feelings on this one. I am just afraid it is not good enougn to have all the side issues, unlike WEEDS or TRUE BLOOD. Perhaps the kids or the wife or the pimp or the school principal (we know where that is going) alone, but not all four. It needs to concentrate more on his antics with the customers.

Great Premises, but not well thought out.

I agree that its starting a little slow. I have learned with HBO to be a little patient. I hope in pans out. I love HBO Sunday's and hope this will build into a great Sunday lineup.
