I really enjoyed this second season and the season finale.

From the lack of reply's, viewers, and production costs, I'm guessing this series most likely will not be back for a third season which is a total bummer, IMO.

I enjoyed this season as well. I thought the season finale was quite good. At the end of the show they said "Merlin will return" which is hopeful.

The show performs well in England, and has been renewed for a third season, or 'series' as they say over there.

Well let's hope that this translates into Syfy picking up the third season.
I had no doubt that Merlin did well over the pond but that doesn't guarantee it will be renewed here in the states.

Let's hope that Series 3 is HD in the UK. The first two were SD-only over here (as the BBC won't broadcast Super 16 shot content in HD)

Merlin has been getting between just above 1 million and and just above 1.5 million viewers each week. It didn't gradually go down it changed week to week. The last 3 weeks though have been just under 1.2 million viewers. For a show that averaged 4.2 million viewers on NBC means many of the people that were interested in the show must really not pay attention to the SyFy channel.

I hope we get the next season. Since it was on NBC last year I was able to watch it in HD but we don't currently have SyFy in HD so i couldn't watch it in HD this season only analog. (We were supposed to get it on June 16 along with 21 others but to get those they had to make channels above 23 digital and if you didn't have a digital tuner or box you needed a free converter box, they switched over about 5,000 people and said they got less calls than they thought but they still pushed back the date for the rest to an undetermined time)

NBC co-produces the show, so if it runs in the UK it will run here.

Merlin is a fun show to watch.

We record it as well as many other series to zip thru the commercials.

I too saw the trailer saying Merlin will be back next season.

I like Merlin, but I'm ready for it to move ahead. Uther needs to die, and die early in the next season, and Aurthur and Merlin need to grow up a little more. I feel like they have been dancing around the next stage of the story, but now it's time to move forward.

I agree. It was disappointing that getting rid of the dragon (a key plot device) means that Merlin still gets no recognition. Nothing on that front is going to improve until Uther bites it.

It is a planned 5 series story so being this is series three coming up I would expect the story to start to move forward.

Yep the dragon advising Merlin was cool.

The dragon said he "owed Merlin" for showing mercy and hinted he would be around. Hope the interaction continues between Merlin & the Dragon.

Show needs to grow up a bit... maybe next season.

I have a feeling this will happen pretty soon..... there are a bunch of stories that need to be told and truths that need to come out that can't happen while uther is in power.

Personally, I don't think there is going to be much of a change in direction. This is (in my opinion) the UK version of "Smallville" and progression towards adulthood is going to be very slow, possibly not at all.

Sturgeon's Law: "Nothing is always absolutely so."
Sturgeons Revelation: "Ninety percent of everything is crud."
My Thoughts: "A reasoned argument must share some basic common points."

It was confirmed today that MERLIN will have a fourth season (series) although the USA is still awaiting the start of the third.

Like the show, it's a lot of fun. As I said earlier, it's co-produced by NBC, and SyFy is owned by NBC so it will run here. It's just too bad it's not in HD.

Merlin Season 4 (13 episodes) has just concluded on the BBC. It's the best season yet!

Yeah season 3 finally had the ending in a bang...apparently season 4 will only be 10 eps due to the cost of the show. Hopefully that will mean less filler episodes and more story development...looking forward to it!

I think you meant season 3 as season 4, although renewed, has not filmed yet from what I understand.

I have watched Season 4 of Merlin and it was unbelievable ! The new uber villian of Season 4 is Malcolm, a magical court jester who becomes nearly unstoppable after stealing the mystical Kyragem ! He becomes a magical God and turns Uther to stone.

Merlin is unable to reverse the magic. But you guys will be in awe of how powerful Malcolm is. He needs the help of the wise old dragon to defeat Malcolm. Eventually they make their way to Malcolms fortress where Brandon, I mean Merlin, confronts Malcolm and uses a mystical mirror to turn him into stone.

The cliffhanger is that Malcolm gets freed from his stone prison and from what I saw of the Season 5 trailer, we get to play as Malcolm, I mean he is the center of attention, not Merlin.

Anyways, yeah, fantastic series this one.

This returns tonight with first run (in the US) season 3 episodes. make sure to check your DVR's as the guide data seems to think these are reruns (which they are when considered worldwide) but they are first run in the U.S.A. A lot of DVR's are not auto recording tonight and next weeks and possible future first U.S.A. runs.
