As Paula Poundstone commented on something that hadn't happened yet.

As CJPC said, the cold open is actually the 2nd segment taped.

Something's been bugging me with the censors on the show. The flag censors are used damn near every cuss for the rest of the show, BUT many times I've noticed during many a monologue that Craig just gets blurred and muted, instead of being flagged. "The hell??"

Now in NE Tucson, AZ with a cheap rabbit ears antenna. Got everything except KTTU (MyNetwork).

He mentioned that during one show, asking the producer why that happened - but never got an answer. My guess - something with S&P before 1AM (although, flags show up during the post-monologue segment)

Figures, the producer doesn't know anything, especially if the show's made in the basement.

I've seen the flags show up occasionally in the monologue (even on Geoff), but not as much as the pixels. My guess is whoever's doing post-production doesn't know how to make the flags bigger.

I think both are hilarious mixed in with different words dubbed in. Seems like all of it is random.

I think last night the Tweetmail segment ran so long that they taped a new cold open ("Tonight's going to be a good one!") after they finished taping the main show.

You'd think that with the cold open being 10 seconds, the theme being 30 seconds, guest list & sponsor spot being 10 seconds, you'd just go straight to the monologue. But nooooo. Gotta have those boner pill commercials.

I'm glad that The Late Late Show went to HD, but thanks to my local affiliate's odd decisions/stupidity, they downscale it, and shrink it to an odd size smaller than the 4x3 viewing area(to something like 14x9 possibly?). It Is quite annoying.

How can I be sure in a world that's constantly changing?

My local affiliates do the same thing with a bunch of shows that were HD and squish them down to SD, even commercials. And then theyshows a commercial that was originally HD, but shrunk to SD within HD within SD. It's so small you can't read anything.

Jennifer Carpenter was on and great. Awkward when Craig asked about a BF lol...

I'm now a Carrie Keagan fan. xD

CBS' David Letterman & Craig Ferguson Sign Deals To Stay On Through 2014
By Nellie Andreeva, Deadline.com - Apr. 3, 2012

CBS has locked in its late night hosts for two more years. David Letterman and Craig Ferguson have signed contract extensions with the network to continue to host their late night talk shows, Late Show and The Late Late Show, respectively, through 2014. Both shows have been solely produced by Letterman's Worldwide Pants banner under the talk show host's original 1993 agreement with CBS. As part of the new pact, CBS will take on some ownership of The Late Late Show, co-producing it with Worldwide Pants. Also as part of the deal, The Late Late Show will move to a larger stage at CBS Television City in Los Angeles.

For Letterman, the contract extension provides a shot at making late night history. During his new deal, the comedian, who made his debut in late night in 1982, would become the longest-running late night talk show host in TV history, surpassing the current record of 30 years held by Letterman's idol Johnny Carson. David Letterman is a late night legend with an iconic show and Craig Ferguson continues to evolve the genre in exciting and innovative ways, said CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler.

After an 11-year-run on NBC's Late Night with David Letterman, Letterman made his debut on CBS on Aug. 30, 1993. His Late Show With David Letterman has won nine Emmy Awards, including six for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Program. Barbara Gaines, Matt Roberts, Jude Brennan, Maria Pope, Eric Stangel, Justin Stangel and Rob Burnett are the executive producers. The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, which premiered in 2005 when Ferguson was selected to replace previous host Craig Kilborn, has earned a Peabody Award and an Emmy nomination for its Scottish-born host. Peter Lassally is the executive producer.

I heard Craig mention this (or rather his guest) the other night. They didn't cover the new studio however. Wonder why Dave gave up some of The Late Late Show... I figured it would be good money once he retired... not that he'd need it. I find this show to be almost the perfect filler when waiting for prime time to commercial buffer during the evening.

That will be nice for Craig, even though you have to climb stairs to get to his studio, it does feel very much like a basement (in Antarctica). When they make all the jokes about it being cold in there, they are not kidding!

Letterman, Ferguson Staying Put Through '14
By Frazier Moore
Associated Press, April 3, 2012 2:39 PM EDT
via TVNewsCheck.com

NEW YORK (AP) - Relax, all you fans of David Letterman and Craig Ferguson. They'll be staying put in late night awhile longer.

CBS announced Tuesday that both Dave and Craig have re-upped to keep hosting their respective hours - "Late Show" and "The Late Late Show" - through 2014.

During the run of this agreement, Letterman will clinch his title as the longest-running, late-night talk-show host in TV history (although on two networks), the network noted. He surpasses Johnny Carson's record of a few months less than 30 years at NBC's "Tonight Show." Letterman, who turns 65 next week, began on NBC in 1982 with "Late Night," before switching to CBS in 1993 after Jay Leno edged him out for the "Tonight Show" crown upon Carson's retirement.

No salary figures were disclosed. But as part of the new deal, "The Late Late Show" will be upgraded from its famously matchbox-size studio to a larger stage at Los Angeles' CBS Television City, the network said.

"David Letterman is a late-night legend with an iconic show and Craig Ferguson continues to evolve the genre in exciting and innovative ways," said CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler in making the announcement.

The Scottish-born Ferguson, 49, had been a musician, actor, writer, director and comedian when he took over "The Late Late Show" in 2005. He has been guaranteed the earlier slot when Letterman decides to retire.

Originating from Manhattan's Ed Sullivan Theatre, "Late Show" has won nine Emmy Awards. In addition to an Emmy nomination, "The Late Late Show" won a Peabody Award in 2009.

The "Late Show With David Letterman" airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. EDT. "The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson" follows at 12:37 a.m. EDT. Both series are produced by Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants.

When they show "lesbian row" you can occasionally see him standing next to the bleachers.

When Craig goes over to "talk to Geoff" after the monologue & he leans past Geoff, he's talking to Josh.

They showed the Scotland for Thursday's AND Friday's show. Looks like CBS is putting their money in Geoff's pants....

And the sight of the TARDIS in the preview made me wonder if Karen Gillan will drop by...(most likely not, but I can dream)

Now in NE Tucson, AZ with a cheap rabbit ears antenna. Got everything except KTTU (MyNetwork).

Well what did you think of the first Scotland show? I thought the Theme song wasn't as strong as France's but the show was rather good... if you enjoy dark.

The conversation over tea certainly took an unpleasant turn. I have difficulty thinking of a less pleasant topic.

But all in all, I'll say, both of this and the Paris shows: Craig has single-handedly revived Surrealism and given it a new home in the most unexpected of all possible places... American late night TV.
