Hmm... intriguing developments this week. Now that Bonnie is dead, there's nobody who can restore the veil, but since it's already down, she can still talk to everyone. I assume she can't do magic anymore, so I wonder how she's going to get back. At least Alaric doesn't have to go for a while. Is anyone else naively hoping Anna makes another appearance? wink.gif

It appears the veil is down within the triangle that covers most of Mystic Falls. It could be fun if it stayed down but only within that area. Lots of old characters could be brought back that way.

I wouldn't mind seeing Anna return; she was one of my favorite characters. But it seems unlikely to me. If Jeremy were still alive, I could see it happening. But bringing them both back just to interact with each other doesn't seem to add anything to the overall flow of the show. Plus if they bring her back it would have to be just next week, as Malese's pilot got picked up by the CW for next year. So she would be unavailable unless it crashes and burns like Matthew Davis' new show did.

Thanks for that note. I wasn't aware that she was part of CW's new projects for next season. I do wonder if both Jeremy and Alaric will get permanently resurrected going forward, what with Matt Davis no longer having anything better to do and Steven McQueen never having left the opening credits during his supposed period of being dead.

Well, looks like we got our answer- Rick vanished- and Jeremy remains (thanks to Bonnie).
Too bad it wasn't the other way around. Was nice to see some of the old characters back again in the finale'.
Good setup for next season- guess Silas is going to have some fun impersonating Stefan, how long till Damon figures it out?

I thought Silas was going to be played by that other actor that another member brought up earlier. Why Stefan of all people? I wanted an intimidating character played by someone who is actually intimidating. Disappointed at this revelation.

I'll second this. Not only was the ending a ripoff of the third season finale of Angel, but having more doppelganger nonsense is going to be tiresome. I'm hoping Silas was just saying that to freak Stefan out for the purposes of shoving him in the safe. It's also a shame to have wasted the cure on Katherine, since all she needs to do is seduce some newbie vampire (which would take her all of ten seconds), and bam, she's a vampire again, and the cure is gone.

I also wonder how the next season will fare without having a witch in the main cast. I wonder if Bonnie is going to be a regular (as seen by Jeremy), or if she's actually gone? If the latter, I wonder if she wanted to leave or if the writers got sick of her. It doesn't look like she's been cast in anything else yet, so maybe she's just going to be a regular dead character. rolleyes.gif

Yeah, I'm not really looking forward to next season if this is all we're going to get out of it. The show is starting to feel like a cliched mashup of other vampire series' villains. The only difference between Silas and The First is that apparently you can touch him. :|

Yes. I thought (hoped) that they would wrap his story line up with the finale. Apparently not. I don't even know why they hired an "actor" to portray him when it is always someone else! rolleyes.gif

It's time to continue the dull Silas plotline, I guess. Here's hoping it wraps up quickly.

This is also a reminder that the premiere of The Originals follows this week's episode before moving to its usual Tuesday slot next week. As far as I can tell, both episodes are going to be new.

Anyone besides me still watching TVD?
Last nights episode S05E11 "500 Years of Solitude" was like a reunion show...
Three of The Originals showed up (Klaus, Rebekah and Elijah), Tyler, Sheriff Liz Forbes, some of the dead made and appearance too... Alaric, Vicki Donovan, Uncle John, Aunt Jenna, etc....

As a matter of fact, I'm still hanging on.

Unfortunately, last night's Anniversary Show ( 100 episodes) was lousy.
The "Catherine Takes Possession of Elena....Again" storyline was a complete groaner.
Talk about a TV show jumping the shark....rolleyes.gif

TVD aside, I REALLY am enjoying The Originals.
It's one of my favs.smile.gif

I still watch, sorta enjoy. Last night I was trying to figure out exactly what Catherine was going to do, die, and pull something off. She is a decent villain, from that standpoint I'd hate to loose her, but there is no reason not to develop another villain. I wonder if Nina and others get paid more for multiple characters. At one point wasn't she playing 4 characters?

The show took a major turn for the worse as soon as they made Stefan another doppelgänger, IMO. I wanted Katherine to die when Silas took the cure from her, but no, they couldn't let her go. It's been five years; she's run her course as a villain. At least they finished the whole Initiative rip-off plotline quickly, but this show badly needs to find a new direction. It's lost its luster, which is a bad state of affairs for any show, but it's especially bad for a network's flagship one. Compared to the adult nature of The Originals, TVD's juvenile tone (Hello, Caroline!) is really starting to show. It's time for TVD to grow up or get staked.

Having Katherine jump into Elena definitely has a 'been there, done that' feel. I would hate to have lost Katherine, as she has been one of my favorite characters, but I was hoping she would jump into Damon instead. Then we could have had some really twisted plots, but they had to play it safe.

This season has been erratic at best for its entire run. First we had Silas and his girlfriend witch, then we had some stuff with "special" Traveller witches, then we had The Initiative (TVD Edition!), and now we have Katherine posing as Elena (again). The writers seem lost, and I think it's because they pulled out all the stops too soon. It's hard to top yourself from villains who are immortal and unkillable, so the departure of Klaus et al. has put them in a bad spot. They don't know what to do anymore, because they can't really raise the stakes any further.

True.

What they REALLY need is a new BIG BAD.
Something completely not mentioned before.

I actually had a dim hope we would finally see the end of Katherine. Putting her in Elena's body really does feel like we've seen this before. I think they intend for Katherine as Elena to go back with Stefan, confusing both Damon and Stefan.

This episode I believe does semi-officially end the Tyler-Caroline romance.

It’s Official: Nina Dobrev Confirms ‘Vampire Diaries’ Exit in May

Mystic Falls just won't be the same without its leading lady Nina Dobrev, who announced on Instagram that the sixth season of “The Vampire Diaries” will be her last.

"I've just spent the most beautiful weekend on Lake Lanier in Georgia with my own ‘TVD’ Family, the cast and crew of ‘The Vampire Diaries.' I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn't just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party," the 26-year-old actress wrote on Instagram.

Dobrev has portrayed fan favorite Elena Gilbert on The CW series since its debut in 2009, and rumors of her departure have been circulating since the “TVD” cast and crew shared trip photos months ago on social media using the hashtag #ninawewillmissyou.

“I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime,” Dobrev continued. “I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there's still so much more to come before the season finale in May.”

Dobrev isn't the only member of the cast to say goodbye this year; her onscreen brother, Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy), Marguerite MacIntyre (Sheriff Forbes) and Michael Trevino (Tyler) have all left the show this season, but Elena’s departure will be the hardest for fans. Executive Producer Julie Plec opened up in a statement on Dobrev's exit from the series.

“Saying goodbye to Nina is both bittersweet and beautiful. After six-plus years together, the entire cast and crew of 'The Vampire Diaries' has reached a level of closeness that I don’t think any of us ever expected,” Plec stated. "We will miss Nina and the four hundred characters she played, but we look forward to the insane and exciting challenge of continuing to tell stories of our Salvatore Brothers and our much-loved and gifted ensemble.”

Dobrev also encouraged fans to keep watching: "I invite you to hop on the roller coaster ride that is Elena Gilbert's life and join me as I celebrate her and prepare to say goodbye to her – and to my work family – as I move on to the next chapter of my life," Dobrev added. “Fasten your seatbelts. If you think you know what's coming, you don't.”

Don’t miss “The Vampire Diaries” Thursdays at 8 p.m on The CW.

The show can survive without her. She's just become a part of the ensemble the past two seasons. The villains usually make this show. The better the villains (like klaus), the better the story lines. They should have kept that witch kid evil. They softened him up.

This is a prime example of the flawed way American TV shows are made. Your show can go on for so long that the leading cast members get bored and move on, but does the show end? No. It just goes on, and on, and on, as long as somebody is still watching whetever dreck the producers throw at the screen. This show lost a lot of steam as soon as Klaus et al. left, and while it started recovering a little with the introduction of Kai, they managed to ruin that, too. I hope season 7 is the last so that we still have some hope of closing the book on this show without having to hatewatch the end of it. They've gotten rid of Jeremy, Bonnie was gone for most of the season, Tyler is leaving, and now even Elena is done. They should have quit while they were ahead, but of course that never happens as long as there's a dime left to be made in the pursuit of mediocrity.
