I thought K. Mcphee looked real good last night.

I liked it.
The Ghost spin off was funny. Really, the whole pottery storyline was good.

That was one of those episodes where it was just so odd and surreal that it was funny.

Heh. Community and Parks and Rec and definitely two of the funniest shows on TV right now.

Poor Jeff, he has a "superiority complex".

I could see what they were trying to do this week but it just wasn't written very well. The buddy cop homage, the Britta prank or the wizard costume were not particularly funny although I did laugh at Troy breaking down over the cookie wand.

The big exception this week - another fantastic Abed moment in the role of "African American Police Chief." He nailed it again. That was great.

Definitely the weakest episode to date. Long stretches of plain not funny. It almost felt like there was some deliberate joke about not being funny built into the episode. This was the first time the show really went from weird to cut-it-out-already.

What's funny is that this block of shows: Community, Parks & Rec, and The Office all, IMHO, have one thing in common: they all have flashes of brilliance, and all have painfully un-funny characters.

Community has the painfully un-funny characted played by Chevy Chase (Pierce is the character's name). His character drags down the show. Parks & Rec has the painfully un-funny Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler). Her character tends to take away from great moments that come from Ron and Tom, and to a lesser extent, Andy. The Office has the painfully un-funny (at times, but way too often) Michael Scott. Date Mike last week was yet another example of Michael Scott not generating laughs from the audience and causing them (us) to cringe. Other times you are supposed to laugh at his misery, but he's so miserable it loses the comedic punch.

The other funny thing is that it is the most well known people on these shows who portray the painfully un-funny characters. I don't know if that is by design or it just turned out that way.

^ I agree. All the characters should act exactly the same and provide the exact same kind of humor. I mean, really. There should just be one character on the show so we don't have to be exposed to other types of comedy. And please, get rid of all dynamics.

I don't watch P&R or Office as I don't find them very funny - especially the Office - I've tried but just don't get their humor. Chevy has a role on Community as the "silly old-guy" and I think he fills it admirably and has had some very funny story arcs as the "joke-butt" - just MHO. I love everything about the show. 30 Rock bookends the "NBC Thursday Donut of Comedy" (for me) and I absolutely love it too.

The show keeps getting more and more out there, but I liked this episode quite a bit. Can't get into The Office or Parks & Rec.

I thought this was one of the best episodes to date.

Abed egging people on - and it culminated w/ Annie bashing Jeff's head into the table and Troy's breakdown.

My wife is hit and miss w/ this show, but she loved this ep, too.

Agree with you 100% about Date Mike, and Michael Scott in general. And about Amy Poehler. But I could not disagree more about Chevy Chase in P&R. The difference is that so often Micheal Scott is the centerpiece of an Office episode, with the most screen time. And that's a very bad choice. Whereas, Chevy gets much less screen time. He's like P&R's version of Creed Bratton. A quick side joke, and them move back on to the main characters. I think he works just fine.

I like Chevy's character also, just something a little different than the norm.

And Abed was hilarious in this episode.

It's a pity we won't see Annie's Boobs every week but I guess seeing Annie's Boobs this week is better than nothing. Sure, it might be childish, but I think having Annie's Boobs on screen regularly could have brought a lot to the show.

Community does Goodfellas. I'm amazed how this show is still on the air when it's breaking the traditional sitcom formula almost every week.

Great episode, especially nice after several weeks of a hiatus. Abed is a poor man's Sheldon from Big Bang Theory. Surprised that Abed isn't touted as the funniest aspect of the show. Last few episodes Abed has been killer. In this one his "narrator" in what was like a coming of age film was awesome.
