The show is Ok, but their is nothing ground breaking here that deserves all the love the show seem to get. The writing may be semi smart, and I guess that is enough for today's audiences. As I've said before the characters are too stereotypical, if they fixed that I'd be more inclined to heap praise on the show. As it stands for me it's a solid B+ at best.

I'm an HD snob. I'll wait for it to make its way to HD syndication. I've waited this long. I might as well wait a little longer.

Did anyone else who ordered from Amazon not get release day delivery? I have a delivery date of the 22nd, but it is suppose to be release tomorrow. I know I can wait an extra, but I was hoping to watch a few episodes tomorrow with my dinner.

Oh, wait. No one did.

I just plain didn't get this show. All I could do the whole time was look at the hot hispanic chick and think, "Wow. Ed O'Neill must be a hell of a guy, because someone obviously owed him big time."

I have heard that Colombian women like American men, and more than willing to accept larger age differences. And in cities like Cali women outnumber men something like seven to one.

Does the show say how he met her? Maybe she was a foreign bride.

Not a great episode but I liked the car scene and did laugh at Phil's spittake/seatbelt moment.

This is one of my favorite shows but everything about this episode looked too familiar. I hope the writers aren't out of ideas already.

I thought last night's episode was consistently clever. But the humor was a mix of the more subtle (which I enjoy) and the slapstick (which I also enjoy). Perhaps some of the many allusions that made the subtle humor so brilliant were elusive to many viewers...

No it was just a typical Modern Family episode running through some not particularly original scenarios.

I was surprisingly unimpressed with this opening episode. I loved this show last year and was anticipating something better tonight. Too much of it looked like...acting...for want of a better description. They usually are seamless and smooth, but I got the sense of almost choreography. The car scene to me was an example. It was a bit funny, but it looked like each character was obviously hitting a mark or just...acting. Maybe this doesn't make sense, but I was a bit disappointed in the show. It will in no way keep me from watching - it was just that 'off their game' episode that most shows have now and then. Looking forward to next week.

Agreed here too.

Now throw in the fact that we all expected a great opener, and we end up with a letdown.

It's definitely a concern, when the opener is ho hum.

True, but the show sort of re-introduced everyone to an audience that probably consists of lots of new viewers, sort of a secondary pilot. The show is too important to ABC's ratings and need for prestige for it to have slid very far. I'm not concerned. At least not yet.

I thought Wednesday night's episode was very funny. Joke wise, physical comedy wise---more in line with what I expected from last years episodes.

Jay to Manny when he asks if he can come golfing: "I'm probably going to have a Latino kid carry my clubs anyway, might as well be you."

Cam and Mitchell had some VERY funny lines--of course most of them poked fun at their own lifestyles, but they were funny nonetheless.

Mitchell to Cam after Cam gets angry at Mitchell for telling lies that get them out of going places: "You're like a mob wife. You complain about what I do but you have no problem wearing the fur that fell off the back of the truck."

@jaybp: Agreed. And I would love to see Nathan Lane as a semi-regular.

But am I the only one who thinks Manny is the weak link in the show? I don't think he's said or done anything that has ever made me even chuckle.

Probably. He's the least natural in his delivery. Of course, his lines are not something you'd hear from a 12 year old. Overall, though, I find myself laughing least at his character.

Interestingly, I read that Noland Gould, the actor who plays Luke (Claire and Phil's son) is a member of Mensa. Ironic, since the character is so thick. All 3 of the "Dunphy kids" are great.
