Since nobody is going to own up to watching this, I guess I'll have to start the thread.

Meet Jules, a single mom in her 40s who's not too happy with what she sees in the mirror. If we looked like the fabulous Courteney Cox, we probably wouldn't complain, but haven't we all had similar showdowns with our bathroom mirrors? It's one of those funny, totally been there moments that leave us wondering why it's taken so long for Courteney to return to her own comedy series. Welcome to Cougar Town.

Since I'm giving most new shows a first chance, I recorded this too. I was kind of surprised that I actually thought this was pretty funny. Predictable plot-scenario jokes but well delivered by Courtney Cox and nicely paced. Much better than her role on Dirt.

The only thing that kept coming to mind watching this show ... was that it seemed to be The New Adventures of Old Christine without the traditional sitcom feel.

Psst:

Is it wrong that I actually laughed more at this show than I did at "Modern Family?"

As much as I like the creative forces behind Scrubs, this show had very few funny moments. There were a few, to be sure, mostly thanks to Cox's ex-husband -- he's really good. Cox still has great comic timing, and I loved when she offered her date a snack, but the good moments were too few and way too far in between. Cox's co-worker is a waste, and her best friend (Scrubs veteran and addicted lip injector) grew tiresome almost immediately. The womanizing neighbor holds some promise, and Cox's son is very good. It's not a total loss and I'll give it a few more episodes before I leave it to die a quick death, but it did not live up to my expectations. Modern Family was the superior show last night.

I never liked Courtney Cox, and this show is no exception. She was the 'friend' I always wanted to see get written off the show and replaced with somebody less shrill. The same goes with this show. The supporting cast is good, and they deserve a better lead actor and a better premise for a show.

Agreed.

It's funny. Kinda stupid, but still somehow funny. I loved the characters.

I enjoyed it too. "These peanut butter crackers are good!"

I had a DVR pause moment when Courtney flashed the kid on the bike. YOWZA!

Will keep watching.

I dvr'd this and Accidentally on Purpose (sic) and watched them back to back. Is it my imagination or have the network censors loosened up considerably as far as sexual humor goes? Not a complaint, just an observation of what I consider a welcome trend back to the pre-"wardrobe malfunction" years as far as tv censorship goes.

I definitely found it funnier than Modern Family - disturbing in parts but funny.

I think they need to ease up a little. I'm in no way a prude, but CC giving a BJ on broadcast TV during primetime is a little much. I thought the entire premise of the show was stupid, not much originality.

Just watched on the DVR. Am I the only one driven to distraction by the amount of large visibile moles on the blonde that works for CC? I mean damn get some of those frozen off they are very distracting in HD.

The BJ scene was really borderline for over the air tv. As an adult I don't mind it, and it is a 9:30 show but it's close. Otherwise I enjoyed the show. Not sure how far they can take it, it seems pretty limited plot wise etc

Loved it.

In contrast with most Americans, I don't mind the sexual references and/or adult situations at all. I'd much rather have my 12 year-old son "seeing" (read as: vaguely imagining) Courtney performing fallatio than seeing (read as: actually witnessing in graphic detail) yet another act of completely unnecessary violence on TV.

In short, I say it's better to have someone blown than blown-to-bits.

I agree with you about the show in general, but as far as the specific act goes, we really didn't see anything. It was just implied. It's not like we saw CC's head bobbing up and down or anything.

My wife thought this was funny so I watched it.

Found it mostly boring, with a couple made-me-smile (but not LOL) moments. And unrealistic. Women actually wanting sex? And liking "that".....yeah, right Who is Hollywood trying to fool?

Yeah I agree. I like the show but they really need to dial it back a notch or 2. Up the likability a little more and tone down the sex humor a tad.

Well I guess once ANickelshort pulls a show from his playlist a network cancellation must surely follow!

Do you really think that just because you don't like the show that others don't? It had terrific ratings again this week and looks to be a keeper for ABC....regardless of whether you pulled it from your playlist.

I got a bad feeling that they are going to have a hard time finding material soon. Unless they can really expand the plot somehow. I still think CC and the divorced guy across the street will/should end up together.

Yet another hilarious episode. While Cox is engaging enough, it's the rest of the cast that truly makes the show for me. The ex-husband is a real riot. Love the "newspaper buddy" neighbor. And the husband next door has a nice, subtle wit. I'll keep this on the DVR for certain, although I'm sure it will get nixed and replaced with yet another dreadful reality TV show or non-funny (yet, surprizingly popular) sitcom...as if we don't have enough of those.

I thought this week's episode with the father son interaction and some of the sex stuff toned down was better. It helps to make the show more likeable. If they keep tweeking the show like this it could really end up being good. As it is, it is still funny.
