I just noticed that I put this post in the Dexter thread...so here it comes in the right place...
This series and gwsat's prodding got me to read a bunch of EL's books including 2 novels that feature Raylen Givens. Edited pieces have been featured in the series, but for the most part, the TV character is much better drawn...and much smarter than EL's version...at least to this critic. This is a very good thing in my estimation, because without TO's subtlely nuanced and humorous performance, I don't think this series would have a chance. As it happens, we like it, the critic's like it, hopefully, it will draw enough viewers to continue. Not say that the books are bad. They are very entertaining. It's just the Givens character is not as well lit...and as I said,
not as smart. Winona in the books is the ex he's well rid of, as well as, his 2 teenage sons (evidently).
Listen while I lurk
I don't lurk as much as I used to and I NEVER listen. Comes from being old and cynical.
